Unexpected Error Has Occured

I get an unexpected error has occurred when exiting FFXIV. I dealt with this error for some time, hoping that maybe an update would correct this issue but so far it has not. These are the things I have tried in order to resolve the issue:

• Uninstalled/Reinstalled the game
• Uninstalled/Reinstalled video card drivers - this lead to the error happening upon launch which prevented me from playing the game entirely which I did the following to resolve
• Disabled windows game mode
• Downloaded and ran DirectX Runtime Web Installer and DirectX Redist (June 2010) - this of course did nothing...
• Reformat/Reinstall Windows
• Update Video Card Drivers
• Reinstall Game again - this time I can launch game but still get an error when exiting
• I disabled windows game mode
• I've tried running as administrator and in compatibility modes

FYI, all of this is occurring on my laptop which is an ASUS ROG GL752VW, it's a gaming laptop with an intel i7 processor and a Geforce GTX 960M video card. This PC more than meets the requirements to run the game and every other game I play runs just fine. I do not have this problem on my desktop computer.

I have scoured the internet looking for a solution but nobody really has one just a list of things to try out, all of which I have done and still the error persists.

Can anyone provide a solid solution/fix for this issue? I would provide an image of the error itself but I don't see an easy way to attach the image I have so no image sorry.

It is comforting to know I'm not the only dealing with this issue, although I knew I wasn't given the amount of results that are returned when you google "ffxiv unexpected error has occurred". This issue didn't just start yesterday either, it has been an issue for quite some time now and there is still no real solution to it. Thank you for sharing your experience with this matter and for posting the link to the support center, I will give that a go as well although I doubt I will have any more luck than you have had thus far. I've contacted support myself about other issues and I too am given very generic responses. It is sad, as a paying customer, to receive this lack of support and for an error that prevents people from playing the game to go on unresolved for as long as it has. All a failing program does is take up space on a hard drive, what other choice do you have but to uninstall it? The game is good but I don't understand why this issue has not yet been resolved. If completely reformatting your computer, installing latest drivers etc. doesn't fix the issue, there is a problem with the game itself. I have no issues playing anything else, this is a fairly modern gaming laptop with an i7 processor, there is no reason this should be happening.

I'd like to get some more information regarding your issue:

When did this start happening? Did anything change/update on your PC that coincides with this?

This only happens when exiting the game now, correct? So you have no issues playing? Previously, did it occur during gameplay?

When you reinstalled the game, did you delete the FFXIV files in the My Documents > My Games folder? This can often be missed when reinstalling the game.

Have you tried reverting back to an older graphics driver that you know doesn't have this problem?

Can you submit a Final Fantasy XIV system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.' I'd like to get this information from both of you as it might help find a solution.

Just came back to the game after a 1 1/2 month break, crashed 3 times since, all of them after teleporting to Rhalgs Reach, then running to the Creation Tome NPC it starts to lag, freeze, sounds goes out, then Unexpected error occurred message box shows up and closes down FFXIV. Doesn't happen 100% of the time, been playing for 1 week now xD.

Happens on both Direct x9 and Direct x11. Nvidia Drivers are up to date, no other games running in the background.

Rhalgs Reach is the only location you seem to be having this issue, correct? Have you tried to moving to another location to see if you get the same crash?

I'm assuming this only happened after you returned to the game recently? Or did you experience this or something similar before?

if I could log into the game I would. but currently im stuck at a never ending loading screen. I started my stormblood (the one that finishes heavensword) and now I can no longer log into my character because when I log into my character I get to the loading screen and I get the error message never loading into the game. I got tired of support and the error so I uninstalled the game. this issue has ruined my ability to log into my character as well as ruined me playing the game

Thank you for the information Miesta.

Your system report seems to be missing some information. It doesn't list your CPU and it says you are using integrated graphics. Is this a laptop? if so, what kind do you have?

As for resolving the issue, try switching to DirectX 9 mode if you are not already using it.

You can also try a clean boot. Simply open the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC.
