But they let us dye Aymeric's hairstyle, so we're no longer emulating him just as he is. Honestly, that reply sounds like a cop-out to me :X
Like all hair functions because you're getting a haircut? I didn't think I dyed the piece and then put it on my character, eating a glamour prism. Isn't his hair an item you throw and can then access via the aesthetician? I didn't buy it since, you know, female character and I didn't want to pay that price for just a hairstyle that I'd probably end up never using. Was like that for Minfilia, Thancred and Y'shtola. Would mean simply placing a hair model on a character's head versus creating a new coat model for every dye available.
I'm just saying, if they're going to use the excuse of "can't dye character outfits because they would no longer be the character's attire", then it seems silly that we are allowed to dye their hair as wouldn't the same logic apply? Aymeric's hair dyed blonde is still Aymeric's hairstyle. Just like Lyse's jacket dyed pink would still be her jacket.Like all hair functions because you're getting a haircut? The systems that dye hair/clothes were not my focus here.
The hair is not a glamour-able item, so there's nothing that was specially made dye-able. It's not a costume piece. That's why I'm bringing up the difference of how hair and dye-able armor are made. "Dye-able hair" in FFXIV is called headgear and is applied on your head slot. It is not "hair," unlike the Lord Commander chest, feet and arm pieces that fit into a slot. While also bringing up the additional work that would be required to make them dye-able, since you said it sounds like a cop-out.I'm just saying, if they're going to use the excuse of "can't dye character outfits because they would no longer be the character's attire", then it seems silly that we are allowed to dye their hair as wouldn't the same logic apply? I get what you're saying, that simply the reason that making it dye-able doesn't change the fact that the model is still very much Aymeric's attire. However, what was sold was the Lord Commander's attire, not some random gear and his gear does have an iconic look to it, much as Lyse's red outfit right now, as does Hien's yellow one. It's not avoiding a commitment (because that's what cop-out means). They are selling the NPC's specific gear because people asked for Aymeric's coat.
I want to say it was during answering that question, or some other live letter, they showed Aymeric. His head is separate from the body. His body is literally the coat, arms, legs, etc. For us to even get the coat, they had to re-create it to fit with our armor system, then make sure it'll fit across all of the classes (because serious talk here, if you just took a model like this and slapped it on any race, you're going to see weird and sometimes nightmarish things come out if you did that). For the work involved, and probably a predetermined price point that they didn't want to go over (or being made sure not to go over as is likely), they probably dropped the additional work that would be required to make them dye-able.
Again, not a cop-out. Just misleading at the worst. Hope that clarifies why I'm bringing up certain aspects.
All of the characters' outfits that originate from FFXIV, and made purchasable, cannot be dyed.
All of the characters' outfits that originate from other titles, and made obtainable through various means, are dye-able.
I'm not SE, that's the only things I see in common. I'm just relaying what has already been addressed in LLPs. Asking why can none of the FFXIV NPC outfits can't be dyed while ones from other games can be sounds like an excellent question to push forward for the next LLP. Though I have a feeling you'll get a much faster version of, 'We sold their gear. THEIR gear, not a customizable one that would be YOURS.'
EDIT:
Well, the Wild Rose set cannot be dyed, either. So at least one of the out-of-FFXIV outfits break the rule of outside FFXIV, OK to dye.
Honestly, I'm more upset that Yoshi said they will NOT sell Zenos's gear because he's a villain. There goes all my hopes and dreams for Yotsuyu's hair (and the attire).
That sounds like an answer that completely doesn't understand glamour. People don't buy those outfits just to cosplay as the NPCs in the game. You buy it because Y'shtola's boots look better than most boots. I'm never wearing the whole outfit as a set in the first place (unless you have to with the full-body outfits like Minfilia and Yda 1.0, but that's a different complaint).
Also things like Squall's and Yuna's outfits are dyeable which makes it kind of double nonsensical. Why is one character costume okay to be dyed but the other not?
If it costs so much, they wouldn't releasing so many unnecessary items would they? Some of these listed items were recently answered in a LLP with a "if we made these items dye-able, it'd no longer be [this NPC]'s attire, so no."
(The request was using Aymeric's coat as an example.)
It's like data doesn't require space and space doesn't require more funds! It does suck, though.
thank youhttp://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...Request-Thread
This no one linked it yet, but I feel its pretty relevant to the topic: we got an official "Request Gear to be Dyeable"-Thread over in the items-section of the forum. Might be worth posting there (again) if you have any requests, assuming they're actually (still) looking it up (the german version of the thread implied a few weeks ago that the feedback was brught to the devs-attention, the english thread never got such a notice... so maybe they're only listening to german to begin with!)

Dyable Plague doctor/bringer coat, GC lieutenant coats,Aymeric coat (or just all character gear i mean people pay for these i feel they should be dyable),Sycrus tower and Labrinth of the ancients gear,Sohm al gear also two pieces of armor id like to be level 1 glamor for all classes Adamantite coat of Fending(they made this usable by MNKS/SAM but it be nice on casters) and the Tunics from the aery
I would prefer most items, including dungeon gear, to be dyeable. The only gear I would not like to see dyeable is faction specific combat gear, including Imperial gear.
Edit: Dyeable Sohm Al gear would be the best thing (for me anyway).
Dyeable Bardam's Mettle gear
-OR-
removing the class restrictions on the SB leveling sets for DoH/DoL classes since they actually have that gear dyeable.
