    Imitation windows

So I was moving into my new apartment. I wanted to try something other than my usual cluttered set up. So I splurged on some imitation windows and stained windows. Little did I know however was that these items cannot be placed on partitions only actual cell walls.

I found this to be really odd. I would like to request then that imitation windows be allowed to be placed on partitions so we can create more interesting wall set ups other than the simple 90* angles we're used to.

I haven't used imitation windows, but I think it's because they just, y'know, imitate windows, instead of actually being windows. They just have the window frame and the light behind them right? It would probably be better to have a separate partition window item for that.

If you managed to get a partition close enough to a wall holding the imitation window it should snap to the wall when you leave edit mode and then it will move with the partition. You just can't adjust the window on the partition after it's latched on, you'll have to repeat the process.

Actually the easiest method I know now is to place the window in storage and use the keyboard housing command and the num pad to place it from storage where you want on the partition. It’ll nudge slightly so you may have to redo for perfect alignment but I found it easier and with more placement freedom than the wall to partition method.

Course if you use a controller I don’t know the input to mimic this application, as I don’t use or or know how it differs exactly.

It's even better than that: when you select the false window, or any wall-placed item, from your storage you can move the mouse/stick to have the placement outline where you want it and then hit the context menu key/button (Numpad[*] on PC) once to bring up the menu and again to select Place. As long as the middle of the object (the space between the placement arrows) is on a vertical surface it will place -- even if the outline colour indicates otherwise**.

This works for floor-placed items, too, allowing you to put things on stairs and landings as well as much closer (or even inside) objects that block placement like wall pillars or the front steps! Just make sure the middle of the object is on a valid surface!

When you select an object from storage, right after choosing it from the list but before moving/rotating it, the context menu button can place it. Because that initial placement only checks the middle of the object you can place objects much closer to walls/pillars/barriers if you come at them from the side.

** As Kidria said it can end up "nudged" slightly off the desired placement. Wall-placed items snap to walls/partitions so placing one on a pillar means it will be inside the pillar, snapped to the wall, after placing; any rotation caused by the curve of surfaces like pillars will be preserved when snapped to the wall. Changes in placement sometimes only resolve when the Housing UI is closed completely. ...Please consult your doctor to see if placement glitching is right for you xD

Didn't know that worked on those, will have to use that next time I'm putting them somewhere away from the walls!

Yep! Saves a lot of time if you got a lot of windows (The ever lovely wall-of-windows treatment). But like anything else if you float em and they're too close to a wall they'll snap onto that surface, so you have to float them sufficiently away from a surface if you're doing that.

I have found, if you have a large or medium, you can use the storage method to put wall-mounted items on the side of the stairs' railing as such:
