The reason there was a delay in Patch 3.1 was that Yoshi-p wanted to give the team a short break because they had been working non stop since they decided to rebuild 1.0

As far as I'm concerned, FFXIV is a fun single player RPG that I have to buy a new Season Pass for every two years to get access to quarterly DLC updates that includes the content I enjoy, which is the MSQ. So long as that keeps on rolling, I don't mind if it's same old, same old.

I really don't believe they even play their own game, much less anyone else's. So things they add probably are new...to them.

Yoshida said in an interview post eureka release that the team was fast going home to play eureka...
In the same interview he explained how much eureka was fun and all...

A: [...]these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Of course he said that lol

You think the director of a game under a corp like SE who is so so wary of public image would say "no none of us here play it and we don't find x or y content much fun either but we decided to give it a go"

I mean I don't hate this game but I will not white knight it because it definitely has issues in innovation, concept and design, not to mention it is quite a ways behind other games in the genre. The team definitely are not the hard gamers they want us to believe they are. They make way to many mistakes on things even casual players would notice and seem to think they are doing something new when they release something that has been around for over a decade.

They may have played it and had fun, but most likely in dev god mode during play testing. I really do not believe they play otherwise and if they do, its definitely not at the same capacity of an even standard casual player.

I agree with the reasoning but I doubt that ppl were really that sold on ultimate and rival wings. I don't really think pvp are that interested in pvp on this game also the report of 200k extra players have come so late in 4.0 that imho it should've been were the drop should've started, since lucky bancho bases itself on activity they can't just be accounts, also since it was 3.5 months after SB release the effect of a new players shoudl've been reabsorbed by then.

What I don't understand is that in that time frame nothing was released, the count was after the count we got on savage release as such we had nothing added in those 2 months, while what you say can be true, 200kish ppl are about nearly half of our normal population as such is quite a large number of ppl that have joined the game in a time that had no new release.

On your second point you are kinda mistaken. The second spike was registered on 4.3 release, that 90k extra players happened during eureka not after, somehow something held the bleed that eureka created and that is something I don't understand either, although tormenteddragon thought that perhaps it was because they had returning campaign in that period which might've been a factor.

That said I wonder if perhaps it's my problem that I can't get hype about what they announce, I wasn't really hyped about rival wings or ultimate so that's imapring my vision on what others might feel on them

They may have kept interest enough players stuck around an extra month or two, which happened to coincide with the census update. As for the sheer number, that is less surprising since people were likely still pushing through Stormblood. While an overall poor patch, 4.1 didn't bomb nearly to the extent 3.1 did. So you wouldn't see quite the same implosion. Another factor is your typical passerby bleed off. Significant drop offs six months or following a new expansion isn't too uncommon.

That was my point though. People resubbed because of Eureka. The 4.25 census released two days before the actual patch, thus it's quite probable people waiting to hear opinions or see gameplay hadn't been accounted for yet were in the subsequent update.

As for Ultimate and Rival Wings. There was definitely hype surrounding both. Curiosity can be a major motivator. Those Twitch views likely enticed both old players and new. FFXIV saw numbers it's never seen before or since, UwU notwithstanding.

It's possible, but I find it very strange that ppl came into activity 1-2 month into the expansion release and not during.

However I disagree with ppl waiting 4.25 to resub for eureka because let's be honest the opinion on eureka in many places wasn't that great

You do realize, while not in large number, some will resub in the middle of patches that been gone a while?

No one's been stating otherwise. But the fact that, say, some people show up even on the days an amusement park looks like a ghost town doesn't tell you how to milk attendance on both high- and low-pop days.

I believe they are running out ideas in this game tbh. I started the game in HW and despite dungeons may be the hard version of the old dungeons, it is still new content nonetheless. 1 dungeon for 4.1, 4.3, 4.5 = 3 dungeons. 2 dungeons for 4.2, 4.4 = 4 dungeons. So we will be getting 7 new dungeons on top of 4.0. in HW we got 10 of them so, less content there.

We had Diadem in HW, we have Eureka in SB. I really don't get it what difference those two have *cough relics*. They removed questing from relic weapons, they removed doing dungeons from them, they removed crafting as well. Now you just grind fates. Yeah "better content" definitely.

We were supposed to have ultimate fights every odd patch right? Now it is 2 per expansion because they said "players cannot catch up", how about "oh we don't know what to make ultimate fights of, we used garuda, titan, ifrit, omega weapon, bahamut, twintania, nero"... "so yeah maybe we can use hw stuff in 5.0 idk guys let's say players suck instead". *because there is no fights left to reuse i imagine* *cough*

We have the same formula as HW, nothing whatsoever changed.

I really doubt there won't be a new potd in 5.x. Because why not milk the content? HoH is the same as PotD like %95 of the mechanics and such. Only some pomanders and magicites are new. I wonder what they will "change" in 5.x.

Treasure maps are the same as well, and i really suspect they won't continue adding a new kinda dragonskin/gazelskin map.

The problem is, everything is the same. You do content now, you do the content in the future with a new look but the same old thing all over again. That's why there is no invention, no new thing in this game.

We will see how it goes, i always enjoy content with friends but without them, i would be already bored and quitted tbh.
