What's up with the Monster Hunter armor?

Ugh, the female gear looks terrible... I wish you had the option of picking which set you wanted instead of gender locking them.

But I agree, they're 'inspired' and that makes me sad... they get the DRG gear set and it looks fantastic. We get less impressive armour. Oh well. I suppose I can toss it into a retainer bag. Meh.

I don't think the sets are bad per se, but MH's aesthetic is basically "I killed a thing, ripped it up, and decided to wear it"...and neither set looks like they have any parts that came from Rathalos. The other half of the collab is getting something right out of XIV, I wish our side got something a little more Monster Hunter-y.

I mean... we DO get Rathalos as a MOUNT. That's something.

But yeah... gear is kind of pitiful. (And the gender-locked different sets are really shoddy as well.) The big 'thing' with Monster Hunter has always been dismantling the monster and creating weapons and armour from it. We are decidedly NOT getting that with this. Having the monster as a mount/pet is really super (I'm really really happy about that) but I just wish the armour was closer to the MH aesthetic than it is. (And not gender-locked... the female set really is BAD. At least to me. I won't put either of my female characters in it. It doesn't fit EITHER of them... which is a pity.)

The bulkiness of the monster hunter outfits would not have translated well. They're designed with one body type in mind. They probably tried it and found only highlanders look good in it.

There is imo a difference between making it looking good for FF14 while still sticking mostly to the original design and making something that barely looks like anything from Monster Hunter at all or even the monster itself..someone did point out that it might not even be the right colors. Show the outfit that Monster hunter got to people that know FF14 and they will say "oh its the dragoon gear set" and show the FF14 version of the Monster hunter set to someone and I am not sure if they will realise that this is from monster hunter. And that is imo a problem, especially since this is cross advertisement. (Well at least they got the mount and minions right)

Part of the problem is how the two games approach how armor is gained, it's looks and usefulness.
FFXIV: The armor is made like an RPG; sacrifices 'ease of use' or reality for looks (can we just talk about that belly window the female dragoon has? REALLY SE? MAYBE I WANT MY STOMACH PROTECTED D:<).
MHW: The armor is made to mimic the monster it's made from. (Odogaron is a fast 'muscle-mutt' and hits hard while causing bleeding; it's armor set gives you faster sharpening to get back into the fray, critical up, bleeding resistance, and skin tight with texture to give you the feeling of muscle).

Also, the armor we got for FFXIV works with all job classes. This game very much doesn't want to give spell casters or the more fleet-footed and dexterous classes heavy-looking armor. That alone throws out a huge chunk of monster hunter armor. I'd not consider Xeno'jiiva or Vaal Hazak 'heavy armor,' but they're definitely too big and bulky to look right on a caster, ninja, bard or machinist. The same applies in reverse; Kirin armor would look very out of place on tanks in XIV.

Have you seen the MHW FFXIV armor? It's literally the DRG lv50 relic gear. I'd personally be more disappointed with that than what we got in FFXIV. I'm cool with the armor (for the male characters at least).

Which is one if not the best looking dragoon armor.

That doesn't look special at all and could be a generic ff 14 armor.

I would like the female version better if it had tails hanging off the waist like the male's coat. It would make them more comparable visually.

considering that's one of the nicest piece of gear in this game
and this is a glamor for all jobs
ill take it

also just because its a coat doesnt mean its a re-skin of another coat
game has loads of them

First off. I'm just going to say don't knock it till we are able to try it. Never know a single piece of this armour could be complete an total gold for glamour. Look at items like the spring/plain skirt or Quaintrelle's dress/skirt. Or heck the Anemos Jacket. A whole set does not determine a single piece's of gear usefulness for glamour. My point is the top might not be the best but the gloves, boots, or pants might be wonderful. Or that one item could be a perfect piece to pull together someone's look.

Second. It was pretty much confirmed the dyable version of the gear will be gotten from the extreme version of the fight. So I foresee this as the more popular version. It is like the Garo items, who would buy the garo items for mgp when wolf marks are easier to get really.
