This sums up my feelings on it. You probably don't look at it and immediately go: "oh that's definitely from the MHW collab event." Whereas the DRG armor is fairly recognizable.
Probably because all of Monster Hunter armor can change drastically simply because of gender of the hunter. (Previous titles, it was gender + blader or gunner version that determined a look and skills).I just can't comprehend why the armor is gendered. If they were bringing over a design from Monster Hunter, then I'd understand and deal with the armor showing thigh skin with glamour as usual.
But these designs look nothing like anything from MonHun, so why do female characters have to deal with inaccurate item icons, no pants, and a lame top? I don't get it.
Dunno why you guys say it "doesn't look MonHan" when MonHan's had armor like this:
I remember there being a plaid, schoolgirl type outfit in MHFU, not that I can recall what the armor is called. :V It's like hunters can't have fairly normal clothes, too. Jokes aside, the armor for FFXIV is stylized for FFXIV. It'd be right at home in MHW, too; it's not too different from parts of a few armor pieces.
I guess people, including myself, who play MHW was expecting to get the Rathalos armor set from hunting Rathalos but whatever. No mention of weapons though so that's a bit concerning.
Because they are inspired by Rathalos?
It's the XIV "inspired by" aesthetic rather than the Monster Hunter aesthetic, but the design elements are definitely there (primarily red scales and black tipped claw elements as a motif) - the collars of both, as well as the sides near the hip on the female set and the bottom of the coat on the male set, are the most obvious. Not as obvious is how the overall color placement - grey, red, black, etc - and placement of certain elements like the chest area on the male and the scales near the midriff on both are evocative of similar placement in the monster hunter set.
Honestly, I appreciate this design a lot more than I did this morning after noticing just how many elements of the original armor are echoed in our version.

Is the event really a permanent event? As in, once it drops August 7th, it will never end?
I hope its dyeable.
And it would be awesome to be able to change skin colors for Rathalos-
Such as green(Rathian) , blue(Azure Rathalos) and pink(Pink Rathian).
I want pink Rathian so bad.
There is both a dyeable version and a non-dyeable version. Possibly non-dyeable from normal and dyeable from extreme, or the dyeable version will just need more drops to craft.
And yes. The event really is permanent, as in, it will be available until servers for FFXIV go down. Rathalos will even be added full-time into the duty roulette.
