Guessing Derplander's job next expansion.

I don't seea thread made aside from what jobs our characters might level. So I'm starting this for fun.

Anyway, correct me if I'm wrong, Derplander has gone through some changes since 1.0 as the promotional guy for this game. We've seen him as a regular "adventurer" in 1.0, I can't remember if he was an archer but I think he had a sword but I can't find any pictures.

ARR he became a WAR, Heavensward he was a DRG. Stormblood started out as MNK but grew his hair and changed into a SAM (thought it was a different guy but meh).

so next expansion what do you think he'd be? A healer? I'll start:


Dark. Knight.

He could very well be the newer job, but I'm going to bet on Dark Knight if the next expansion is going to set the mood to a darker, more brooding tone. I had this feeling we're going to go on a vengeful path after the events of 4.5. The dark knight storyline alone deals with the internal struggle of the WoL and the pain of loss. At this point in the game, we see some real hard and heavy stuff.

Of course it's all fun speculation, your thoughts?

so next expansion what do you think he'd be? A healer?

That'd never get approved by marketing.

My bet would be one of the new jobs. Failing that, perhaps machinist, following the kind of techy theme of magitek. Failing that, and if they were to pick a magic job: Black Mage - a very iconic FF job.

I could see kind of Dark Knight too, and yet... I feel like if that were to happen, it would have been HW. Afterall, HW was more about going against the established/natural but corrupt government instead of pushing back invaders. But maybe the 5.0 theme could support it.

If I had to hazard a guess, PLD, Possibly to show off some new Magiteck models (Power armor themed tank armor, One hander Gunblade , etc, etc) and than the WoL/Derplander will change into the new job, which if I also had to guess would be a Magiteck version of the Rune Fencer, wielding the GreatGunblade/2 hander Gunblade/GunsEstoc in the same style that Shadow hunter is.

Also I Really doubt that The story is gonna get darker, if anything the main Story (not including 5.1 and beyond) is probably gonna get brighter (or gray-er), considering we're building up toward the cliche that the evil Empire we've been fighting may not be so bad, we just need to cut out the bad parts off it

...and just to point out, DRK is not about vengence (for the player at least, can't talk for a certain edgy Au ra), WoL's story as DRK is about acceptance and not letting your inner turmoil consume us; by accepting and Controlling our Pragmatism, violence and/or Rage with Fray, and accepting that the WoL's life will always be one full of grief, pain, and consequence and that the WoL must move on with Myste. If anything DRK's Job quest might even be a bit brighter with us getting to bring DRK traditions (Punisher levels of Vigilantism) into a Garlean City which could be arguably more brighter than facing our inner demons brought to life, Protecting a girl from her insane mother's attempt at her life, and dealing with our PTSD brought to life

Of the currently existing jobs, MCH obviously has the highest chance, to go with the technology theme.

The only way any other job would make sense is if the whole story takes a thematic turn to justify it, like Bard's emphasis on songs and stories.

You know what I want to see again? Derplander and buddies doing stuff. I mean yeah they became the Warriors of Darkness but it would be nice to see Derplander with his party again in opening cinematics.

Heck, PLD can already use gunblades, if you're willing to take the Lightning Returns glamour sword as an example...

Probably launching a Garlean-based job. And Derplander will be on it for the trailer.

I could see chemist as a healer class... it would fit the theme... weapons a slingshot.... can launch bottles of aetherchemical solutions to cure allies and damage enemies...
