I really like the idea of having a retainer that sells my items directly to people who enter my house/apartment. I use to enjoy having random people enter my room in Phantasy Star Universe to purchase things directly from my personal market bazaar. It allows me to build rapport with my community. Especially going from Gilgamesh to Cactuar I would like to find new additional ways to build rapport with people on the server...

Actually why limit it to the servers, let's make it for the Data Center even.

you can place retainers on your property and people can buy the stuff you put on that retainer to sell direct from them you know.

That's true for people that own a house lol

Unfortunately, with the way the market system is built, plus the housing ward system, it's really just not going to net you much interest even if you can put one in. People can already buy whatever your retainers are selling off the marketboard, so it doesn't behoove them to go and find your retainers. And even if you could somehow make it one or the other, the fact that there are 112 wards (14 main/14 sub per city) to go through, unless you have a "name" for selling a particular item, the chance of someone stumbling upon your one apartment out of the thousands of apartments and houses on each server is very low.

I'm not saying it shouldn't be an option, I'm just saying that this game's setup doesn't really promote that sort of interactivity.

I think one way to solve this is to have a proper advertisement board, essentially it would work similar to PF but you can but up ads like recruiting for FC members, you are hosting an event at your house, or you just want to let people know some things your retainers are selling (touching on what OP might be looking for). The ads would stay up for a week maximum or less if you wanted, and is a nice little social aspect to add I think.

I know this is kind of off-topic but seeing ppl talk about approaching retainers directly to purchase goods really makes me miss the old shopping wards before 2.0. I really would love to have them back even if that means I'd have to go to the cities again and walk up to the marked retainers. Good times

I was only in closed beta and at least then it was absolutely horrible system. Considering how many more players we have now than before 2.0 those wards would be nightmarish to have all those retainers there at the same time. I wonder how the loading times would be...
