could we have some of our things account wide similar to WoW?

    idk about anyone else, but

i think it's really frustrating with event in-game rewards, like the holiday ones etc. it's cool and all if you were there and obtained the rewards on one character, 'cause you can re-buy them from a vendor since you're somehow cleared for it, but if you want to make a new character then you're losing a lot of potential glamour since this isn't a thing. i understand it might require some code rewriting or something? but,

between in-game events you were present for on another character, and very time-consuming RNG-related drops like mounts and pets, maybe even music, it really bites when you want to play a new character for whatever reason and you lose aaaalll of those things. all your event glamour and emotes, the mgp mounts you spent 10yrs (yes exaggeration i know) getting, rng-related pets and hairs and mounts you suffered grinding 5ever to get, the minions you got for buying soundtracks and plushes or w/e, etc. OH... and mog station glamours you bought. $12-$18 to only have on one character is super grossy. i really want to buy like five outfits but i can't justify it for myself, especially since i like to play different characters sometimes. the biggest reason i feel stuck on my main is bc of all those things i have that i would lose. or else it'd be VERY refreshing to play different characters. the game isn't very alt-friendly, and i'd really like it to be because??? i candsgnejk? i don'T want to see the same character every time i play?

soo, why couldn't we have this like WoW? it might even remove the need to send our things through mog mail because our whole account could be flagged/ticked/whatever for being able to receive x/y! who else has to go through like 2-3 pages of mogmail because of old veteran rewards lol

is this something anyone else thinks about and really, really wants? especially since ps3 support isn't a thing anymore, things like this could really be nice. ps3 excuse is invalid now! let's go! puhlease! y/n?

p.s. i was also thinking, if our glamour dresser + armoire could be accountbound or w/e you wanna call it, as in, all characters see the same glamours in each storage, that would alleviate some of the issues i have with event glamours you DO somewhere on your account (as well as expensive crafted glamours q.q)! a little more space in our glam dresser would be nice, but i'd greatly appreciate being able to access all the glams inside them on every character.

One of a few threads already on the subject. It's been asked about/for over and over. They built the system to work by character, not by account and until they are afforded the development time, money and desire to carry through with it we are stuck with an outdated system that works in favor of making them more money from people who will buy the same item for multiple characters. The account wide stuff appears to have been tacked on, but isn't capable of being sustained because of some weird code limitation.

Most of the items used to be account wide. However, this meant that characters that were created on an account and abandoned would end up with 40+ pieces of mog mail sitting in their mail box. Multiply that by millions of abandoned accounts, and it starts to present a data issue. (It's not the space that's the problem, it's the fact that every time you check your mog mail in game, it has to trawl through a table with millions of characters to get your mail out.)

They couldn't just delete all that old mail. But adding more and more account wide items was only going to exacerbate the issue.

So... they killed the veterans rewards program and stopped most account wide cash shop sales.

Yes, I'd love this! Especially for the seasonal events and things bought off Mog Station (like you said, it's gross business practice to make people pay for the same item for each character).

i understand the current coding is a problem, that's why we need an update! i just don't know if they've even considered taking this request seriously and that's a huge bummer. ffxiv really shows its age in a lot of ways, but i hope they will make changes!

For what it's worth, and from what they've said about this before, I think that's not quite the problem. Each account has a set of flags that determine your account entitlements. Each character has a set of identical flags to determine whether that character received those account entitlements. When you create a new character and log into it, it checks your character entitlements against the account entitlements to spawn mail for the items you haven't received (up to 20 messages at a time) until the two sets of flags match.

The problem they've run into is that the amount of flags on both the account and character side are limited (a fixed size), and to increase the amount of flags would require adjusting the format of the data files (which has repercussions on a lot of connected systems). So, because of the high complexity/risk of changing the file structure, they've limited the amount of account items they offer for now to buy themselves more time.

Because of all this, adding more account items wouldn't increase the amount of mail, since it's capped at 20 items anyway. (After you clear the 20 items, it'll create new mail items at that point for the next batch of items.) If they could increase the amount of flags (or switch to an entirely different system that didn't use flags), they could solve this issue.
