These two rotations are why a lot of people don't play DRK. The reliance on Dark Arts spam is ridiculous.
Optimized - (Better suited when you're comfortable on tank/with a reliable group)
High Threat - (Better for 24 mans and pugs)
Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

Yeah, I looked at the openers, tried them a couple of times and just noped out. Too much DA, too much double-weaving, no thanks. Back to knuckle dragger and Pally for me.

While I still enjoy the job myself, I readily agree the Dark Arts spam introduced in Stormblood has been awful. Seriously, where the hell did their creativity go? I get wanting to simplify job rotations but this decision was absurd. I'm hoping they, at least, remove Dark Arts from Syphon Strike. That's the worst offender right now.
Imo, it's not the directly DA spam that discourage people from playing DRK, but more like a combination of the stigma "lol DRK is trash" and a lot of double weaving with a GCD speed boost.
I mean, SMN litterally spam Ruin II / Ruin III at nearly every GCD, with frequent double weaving, and SMN is played a lot. On a 10 min sigma savage fight, I had around 65 casts of DA as DRK, and around 200 casts of Ruin spells as SMN.
