Memorial for a lost FC member

Hello all. I'm posting this here in hopes of a XIV dev spotting this thread and hearing our situation. A few months ago the father of a long time friend of mine joined our FC to play this game with his daughter. His daughter and I have known each other for years so when she approached me about him joining there was no way I could say no. The two played almost daily when work didn't get in the way and she had been teaching him how to tank (throwing him right into the action, I know). Sadly, two days ago, her father passed away. This game, this entire franchise, meant a lot to the two of them.

With this in mind, I'm hoping to reach out to someone on the development team and get her some sort of momento in game to remember her father with and to keep his legacy in XIV alive. He wasn't with our FC very long, but he was still one of us. And if I can do anything to keep his memory and keep the bond this game gave the two of them, it would be this.

So if any devs read this or if anyone knows who I can contact to talk about this with it would be very appreciated.

Unfortunately, these individual momentos aren't something they will add in (it's been requested before, and I believe even at Live Letters, and got Japanese-style politely rejected). I am sorry for your loss, but maybe there are housing items that combined together could allow you to think of him? What was his favourite place, maybe a painting of that area (if available) could be added? At best we might get a generic gravestone item that can be added.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

It's not really going to happen. The only circumstances in which special statues, items or whatever is when someone taking part in the development dies, as happened to WoW and they put a memorial to him in the game, or a very long-time staff member that was loved by all either dies or leaves, seen a game where developers put up a statue in one of the cities for a community manager that resigned after being there for 6 years. Or players that became memes, see Leeroy Jenkins, famous players that have changed the entire playerbase etc.

But for a random player that had no significant impact on the game and it's community? Never going to happen, your best bet would be to put up a painting of his favorite place in your house, or some decorations he really liked that remind you of him.

Another reason why this isn't going to happen is because they already denied dozens of these requests, accepting one would mean either accepting all of them, which is certainly not possible, or playing favorites, which is going to generate a huge backlash.

Blizzard has also done a number of Make-A-Wish requests, and a good number of memorials in WoW are placed to regular players who had passed away.

From Square-Enix, it just won't happen given that unlike companies like Blizzard, SE can come off as almost outstandingly impersonal at times. Whether it's the individual viewpoint of the company or some greater aspect of Japanese culture of "business being business", I sadly don't know. It's quite unfortunate since I believe that's probably the biggest thing ruining the game for me.

First of all, I am very sorry to hear about your loss. As others have said, unfortunately I don't think that there's much the developers will be able to do anything for it, but I definitely encourage you and your FC to find your own ways to commemorate your friend's dad. If your FC has housing, perhaps you could decide to try and craft something as a memorial for him or something to that effect. You could also see if you can get your server community involved and hold a sort of memorial for him. I'm sure there's lots of other ideas you could come up with as a group as well. I hope you're able to find something that works for you all. It's hard to lose someone, and my heart goes out to you all.

I believe in the next update they're going to introduce mannequins. Perhaps you guys could dress one up in his favorite armor and make a memorial.

I'm very sorry for your loss - however, as already explained, a personal/special memorial isnt going to happen.

But maybe you can utilise the "Message Book Stand" thats in the game to create one by yourself? You can write some personal message in the greeting section and everyone who wants to leave their personal thoughts, memories etc. can do so aswell. You can always lock it to more comments afterwards.

Man that sucks. You can always try to organize some sort of community memorial event on your server though and take a bunch of screencaps in order to immortalize it forever

Very sorry for the loss of your friend

We on Leviathan also lost a well-known member, and since we knew there wasn't anything in-game (from a developer perspective) that we could petition for, we held a memorial for them in Limsa and some people also decorated their house like a shrine.

"We want bunny suits for guys!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Ishgard housing!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Viera!" -- OK! ✅
    "We want Cloud's motorcycle!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Blue Mage!"-- OK! ✅
"We want the ability to earn past Feast rewards!" - HAHA no that's sacred.
