I had a raise macro with a sound effect - a small ping - and a simple "Raising <t>" but I removed the sound effect after Eureka. I never got complaints about it, even with the sound, it just made me anxious that I was annoying people with the sound. I probably was, but nobody ever said anything to me.

Well the correct SwiftRaise macro (the one that tries every party member) would never try to raise someone else who is already can't be raised. The problem is that without the swiftcast buff, the healer with the switftcast will beat you to the same target, which will depend on how their party members are arranged. Mine is "target, tank, co-healer, dps"
The DPS that have the ability to raise (SMN/ACN/RDM) should have the same swiftcast macro (I'm not even sure if this is suitable for RDM, but for the sake of argument, let's assume it is.) If everyone doesn't have swiftcast available, then the manual targeted raise should be used, and that's the one that can do the sound effect/witty statement (really should just be auto-translate for raise).
The swiftraise everyone macro everyone should have is some variation of
Ideally though, if you're having to heal multiple players for whatever reason, and swiftcast isn't available, and you don't know if the other healer has used theirs, raise the second target first, or a dps that has their own raise, so they can chain their swiftraise. If a player has been sitting KO'd for 60 seconds, that should be available to them once they have MP for it./micon Raise

I only use them in Alliance Raids when raising someone who isn't in my alliance. Even then, it is very simple: "Raising <t> {Take Care}. If I ever decide to get serious with SMN and RDM, I might consider using them in 8-man.
I've never been barked at for using it, nor have I had many issues with players stepping on each other's toes with raises. In truth, I am usually the quickest on the draw with it, but I always look for the raise icon next to a downed player before swiftcasting myself. If the other healer is close to me, just hearing the audible for swiftcast will have me hold mine back as their intention is usually to raise a downed player.
I used to have text on my raise macros for my RDM and SMN, but I removed that. Now the macros work mainly to rez people on a priority list without targeting (though it still puts targeted party members at top priority if I decide to do so), mainly so I don't have to be distracted too long from DPS duties. As WHM I have no macro though. Anyway, I don't think they're all that bad unless they're obnoxiously long and/or have annoying sound effects.
I only dislike them because it's inefficient.

Imo as long as the macro isn't insulting I don't see the issue
And as swiss-momo said, if they hate it so much perhaps they should die less (unless it's your fault, then I understand their complain)
I've had a couple negative Nancys who got snippy. Mine is just 'Walk it off, <t>" and I only use it in instances where there is another raiser. It's a courtesy to let them know I have someone so we don't waste things like Swiftcast raising the same person. And the whining stops pretty quick when I point that out.
Have I been called out? Yes. Both good and bad call outs.
Are They useful? yes.
in anything you're in an 8 man party for, with a co-healer or a DPS that can raise (SMN, RDM) it's a way of saying "i've got X Person". if I'm hard casting a raise and at the last half second and one of the DPS/Other Healer raises them? that's a waste of my MP...because my spells going off even if I move.
Re: Using it every few seconds in a 24 man Raid...hopefully it's not your party that's doing Mass Floor tanking...hopefully...*twitches at last Lighthouse run where all the DPS decided to stand in the beam attack from Construct*
if you're not in a voice chat with the other healer/players capable of raising in your party, it's nice to have a macro for informational purposes.
I'm just happy I'm getting a raise. Why would I complain about that? It also seems like a good idea so multiple healers don't waste their raise on the same person. Just seems like common sense.
