    Summoner controller hotbar setting issues

    Hi everyone,

I am relatively new to FFXIV, been playing for about 2 months now. I am still trying out different jobs, and already got 3 jobs to level 70 with no controller issue. (I am playing on PC)

However, I started Summoner a few weeks ago, and noticed that I only get 2 sets of hotbars for Summoner, i.e. my Main set ,when I press RB it will go to my pet hot bar , and that is it. I can't change anything on the pet hot bar, so I am stucked or locked with just one set of buttons, which is 16 buttons.

It is ok for lower levels but it will be highly insufficient as I level up. I have other cross hotbars set up but it's not efficient for me - as it will cause delays and stuff - as I need to use the mouse and go click it.

This did not happen with my other classes, I have at least 3 sets of buttons set up for each class, and will be able to switch by pressing RB.

Can anyone tell me what's going wrong here? I couldn't figure it out. Thanks a lot

I'm assuming your controller works the same as PS4, with two sets of trigger buttons - one that switches hotbars and one that you hold down to activate them.

There should be a setting in one of the config menus that turns on expanded hotbars - one for accessing a second row by pressing the other trigger, and a different setting to access a third hotbar by double-tapping the trigger.

Additionally if you hold down the "switch hotbars" button and press one of the attack/directional buttons, it should let you switch to a different specific hotbar that way.

Enable Expanded hotbars. This gives you 3 bars without having to toggle the R1 button to switch bars. I ignore my pet hotbar and place my pet abilities on my 3rd bar. Hope this helps.

Yeah this is what I did as well. If i remember correctly it was only when SB was released that we could start putting pet actions on our normal hotbars which helped a lot!

It's been possible since ARR was new (at least on PS4, though I guess it's possible some controller features only got extended to PC later).

Between the fixed skill positions on the pet hotbar, and the way it overrides normal hotbar switching, the pet crossbar is more cumbersome than it's worth. It's much better to turn off the pet bar and put its skills on regular crossbars. That does make SCH and SMN need more total skill slots than other jobs, but with expanded and W crossbars, as well as RB crossbar switching, you should be able to fit everything in ok.

If setting up your own replacement for the pet bar, you'll probably also want macros to reconfigure it according to which pet you have summoned. There have been lots of threads describing that, but here's a couple (they're old threads, but the basic design is still valid):

Possibly I was just confused with the fact the pet hotbar couldn't be customised, that was very annoying. (Though ARR was released on PS3 first before PS4 so could of been some changes before that happened). I have enough macros that work fine though, none of the ones you mentioned, they never really worked for me but guess it works for some players.

You could pick spots on your normal bars where you want to put your pet commands, disable the pet bar altogether, then make macros that set each button to the correct action based on which egi you are summoning.

Edit: Oh, Niwashi already linked to threads for that.
Anyway, just note the slight difference in the command, for cross hotbars: /chotbar instead of /hotbar.
