Leatherworker is the worst crafter since SB

LTW is the one crafting class I seem to be having the most trouble with since SB launched. Mostly due to the fact that it doesn't come bundled with any useful cross class skills. Waste Not has been made 100% redundant by manipulation 2, so what tends to happen is that you simply don't have the cross class slots to fill in the cross class skills that tend to be available on other classes, especially when some of the skills like Steady Hand 2, Ingenuity 1 or 2, Innovation, Muscle Memory, Piece by Piece and Byregot's Blessing are a cornerstone of so many crafting rotations.

LTW also gets to have one of the most annoying 3-star recipes; Ground Sloth Leather. A recipe where you cannot get any HQ ingredients without paying out a ridiculous amount of creation for, unlike something like Veteran Tree Sap or Black Willow Lumber, where at the very least, you can get HQ ingredients with a DoL class.

Yeah, the imbalance of Ground Sloth Leather is really ridiculous, I don't understand it.

The cross class skills was an issue for me in Heavensward as I had to drop one important thing on Leatherworker, but with such powerful abilities like Manipulation 2 being available to everyone now, I actually have free slots for cross class skills I don't really "need" on most classes. Waste Not is useful for leveling crafting, at least.

It's the same for Weaver in terms of cross class abilities but just like Weaver, the recipes are worth it.

Armorsmith still holds crafting title for lolwut class. Both in cross class, something it never had and... Alembic recipe? The only advantage in armor is the crystals are affordable even in 9999 stacks making it the best class for scrip farming.

Actually, LTW is the worst out of all.

WVR has at least CSII still shared by other classes. The same goes for CRP with Blessing and ARM with PBP. These classes have 1 useful CC.

Other classes such as BSM has Ingen1 and Ingen2, GSM has Maker's Mark, Flawless Syn and Innovation, CUL has SH2 and Muscle Mem, ALC has Trick of Trade and Comfort Zone. These classes have more than 1 useful CC.

So WVR, CRP and ARM are at a slight disadvantage, whereas LTW is at a even more disadvantageous position. For WVR, CRP & ARM, I usually take out Hasty Touch if I'm using Maker's Mark + Flawless. But for LTW, I have to take out both Hasty and Innovation if I'm using Maker's Mark + Flawless.

I agree with you and Elamys that LTW is definitely in the least favorable position due to lacking 1 useful CC. On one perspective, one can treat it has a slight challenge due to the "handicap", on another perspective, LTW is just a pain the neck. If you're a LTW main, it's kind of "unfair".

As for the Ground Sloth Leather, I'd love to see them reducing the number of Ground Sloth Belt per leather from 4 to 2.

I definitely see the frustration with LTW as far as cross class skills but for most crafts you have more than enough cc slots imo, the only time it runs tight is if you’re running makers mark which is 2 slots on its own and ideally run alongside tricks of the trade leaving 7 other slots. Depending on how far along you are leveling you can get by without hasty touch or manipulation. If it’s LTW endgame and you’re just gearing up makers mark is the best way to go making your own gear until you get higher stats until you can move on to muscle memory.

I want to say personally the cross class skills for high end crafting are Comfort Zone, Piece by Piece, Ingenuity 1 and 2, Steady Hand 2, Byregots Blessing and Innovation. With my current gear I get by using muscle memory or initial preparations bringing the total to 8 CC slots, forego muscle memory for tricks/makers mark and flawless and that’s the full 10.

I haven't used CS II even on Weaver in forever. It's just not strong enough. Between CS III and Focused Synth, CS II, like Waste Not became a legacy skill.

Most people now are leveling for recipes and Leather still has a strong footing there. In my view it's a good thing that we don't need cross class anymore. I think it was the objective and they accomplished it.

I use CS II constantly, on quite a few endgame rotations, particularly for specialists on vendor food and no tea. It's extremely good in that it doesn't cost any CP. Rotations often need a little filler, for example to get a Comfort Zone refresh before you start a second quality phase, or to make use of a remaining stack of Ingenuity and if you aren't struggling on progress, CS II slots in perfectly to leave max CP for pushing every bit of quality.

LTW might have gotten the short stick in term of materials and abilities, but im guessing all the gil they made from selling 70 gathering gear made up for it :P (Didnt have a crafter at 60 when SB came out, made sure it wont happen for 5.0)
