Unable to Log Onto Two of My Characters

Good afternoon,
I'm having trouble with two of my characters on the Balmung server. For some reason, I am unable to log onto them and I receive a "unexpected error has occurred. shutting down Final Fantasy XIV. (16a)" message. It only occurs with those two characters when I attempt to log into them. All other characters I have, on balmung and otherwise, are playable and fully functional. I don't have the game on any other device to test and see if I can log into them there, and I've tried changing port ranges on my router and internet explorer won't allow me to open the tools menu to change anything there. So I don't know what else to do. Please help me. These two characters are my highest level characters and I have been working on one since the beginning of 2.0. I really don't want to lose them.

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

When did this start happening? Did anything change or update on your PC that coincides with this?

If this error is character specific, it may have something to do with the locally saved files in the My Documents folder. Find the settings files in the 'My Documents' folder (My Documents > My Games > Final Fantasy XIV) and delete that folder. Try to log into that character after that.

If that does not work, try doing a clean boot. Simply open the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. This will make sure that no background processes are interfering with the game.

If you are still having problems after that, can you submit a Final Fantasy XIV system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'
