A question about Arbert. (MAJOR SPOILER)

    (MAJOR SPOILER)

After doing some research, I figured that no, Arbert and the poster boy for this game are not the same people. HOWEVER... Let me ask you this. Did you mistook Arbert to be the one from the Answers cinematic scene? And when they revealed Arbert at the cutscene where they introduced the Warrior of Darkness, weren't you shocked and thought "Holy crap! This entire time, the poster boy is actually a villain? BRILLIANT!"

No. If anything I assumed it was a parallel universe type thing if anything at all. Also he really isn't a villain either. He came to save his world and his people in any way possible, even if that meant making a deal with the enemy, nothing we wouldn't do. Look at the way we traipse around killing everything in sight to reach our goals of what we see as 'heroic' or 'good', we aren't necessarily good per se either and could easily be construed as the villain from even a slightly different perspective. Heck, if our world fell into darkness we would likely go to another and kill our counterpart there if we thought it would save us.

I wish they'd done more with him. The premise of his world dying and needing to oppose the people of another world in order to survive was a very intriguing one. It's a shame it was over in the blink of an eye.

It also makes me extremely reluctant to trust in Hydaelyn's judgement. It's very convenient that she failed to mention the consequences of a world succumbing to 'too much Light'.

Welp, its common knowledge that the WoL evolution we have seen in our trailers/opening cut scenes are representations of we the player base.
So, I don't think many people would of mistaken Arbert and his FFIII band for Derplander and the rest of the player placeholders. :3

I remember thinking 'Huh, I wonder why they didn't give them more unique models' but as the story developed I understood the parallel they were drawing. One of these days I should go back and watch previous story lines again...

No I never thought that because I knew that the WoL in the trailers is just a stand in for all of our characters. I might have been a bit surprised if they did it that way, that the warrior would always take on the form of the character the player uses but since they did not, it was not of a suprise. What did surpise me though was the discussion by some that did believe that this was the group from the ARR trailer.

I was more disappointed in them using the WoD barely and then solving the situation way too fast.

@Theodric: Lets not forget that the mother crystal was so weak and is constantly losing that she was not able to communicate with them. Heck she needed Minfilia to talk to us too and we are on the original world. Also maybe they did not know that this can happen? I mean the Asican also managed to create a void which goes against their plan so maybe nobody involved knew that an out of balance world could end like it? In the end it was important that she helped as soon as she was able to do so. (I still find the concept that doing too much good will turn the balance to light a bit strange..)

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

That would be a good future expansion but without it being a full blown expansion it would have been too short no matter what, that story has way to many possibilities and opportunities to handle it in a patch or two. It felt like it was really just crammed in as something to fill the gap and extend the story, kindda like the whole Doma thing.

But since SE just cannot come up with anything better than Garlemald and the Ascians its always a possibility. It's been 8 years, 2 base games and 2 expacs now and we still have the same antagonists..... it's like c'mon SE I expect more from you.

Shocked? Nah, but I appreciated it. Because that so easily could've been us, so that happening to our 'placeholder' made all the sense in the world. The Ascians also keep going on about how the Echo would eventually bring us to the conclusion they're right, and that was a prime example of how they could be, because that's ultimately what happened to the WoD.
That's also why I don't want to call them villains, even though they went overboard with making them needlessly vicious. Antagonists for sure, but the worst I'd give them is Anti-Heros. They're ultimately trying to save their world, it's just that until Urianger forced Hydaelyn to get involved, they had no other options.
