When I re-installed the game it was on a freshly formatted HDD with a fresh windows install. I tried everything on your list except changing the compatibility mode. I will do that now and I'll get back with you with another post.

Also, don't worry too much about the delay in your response, I figured you were just buried in other technical issues and may have just forgotten about mine.

    UPDATE: as promised.

Tried running in windows 7 compatibility and started running the game immediately after the last post, and within 1-2 minutes of this post it has froze the computer and I had to hard reset it. Any other suggestions? I'm willing to try just about anything haha.

Thank you for the update xXanosx.

In an earlier post, I asked if you've tried the game in windowed mode and and you said you tried it in borderless windowed to no avail. Can you try windowed mode? I know it seems like you will get a similar result to borderless windowed, but I think it's worth a try. Can you also try lowering some of the graphics settings as well as the resolution if you have not already. See if this has any effect.

I'm starting to think it may a hardware issue, exactly which part, I'm not sure though. You can try removing then reinserting the graphics card or RAM just to be sure. If you have more than one stick of RAM, try taking one out and starting the game. Try the other by itself if you are getting the same problem.

Do you have a way of monitoring the temperature of your GPU and CPU? Can you get the temperatures of those when the system freezes?

Are you overclocking any part of your computer?

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

It was worth the try to do windowed, a new thing happened even though eventually it still did the same thing (complete system freeze). The new thing was it started to freeze for a split second but didn't affect anything. Not sure how else to explain it. No idea if that could help narrow anything down or not. It can't be a hardware issue as I have stated before I have replaced every piece of hardware sense this started, partly because hardware was my first thought, and I needed to upgrade everything.

as for temps, with my old graphics card I was able to run duel monitors (my second monitor is ancient) but with the 580 I just bought I don't have an adapter for my old secondary monitor. anyway nothing was ever overheating during the freezes, which is something I had been looking for. Also no spikes in CPU usage or memory usage using the task manager to monitor that.

I am not overclocking anything, no need with current hardware and current games I play.

For shits and giggles I decided to go ahead and run some memtests and stress tests. memtests didn't come up with any issues on either of my 4 sticks.

Thank you for the reply xXanosx.

Unfortunately, there is a limit to the amount of support we can provide. Since we don't have access to you specific computer, we can only suggest what we have above. I'd suggest filling out a bug report in the following forum: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/f...2-In-Game-Bugs

Make sure to follow the template outlined in the sticky thread.

Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

    *UPDATE*

Ok I think I found the issue and did some testing to confirm. So far all tests have been successful in reproducing the freezes.

No idea if this has anything to do with anything, but when I ran the stress tests it made me turn on something called "windows viewer" or some crap. After that I went ahead and tried running the game again, worked fine the entire time I played it. I figured it was a fluke, or that fixed it. Though I don't think it had anything to do with it.

Went in my graphics settings in-game and decided to turn up my graphics from where I had turned them down previously. This gave me an idea, put everything on max settings and turn off 1 thing at a time to see if it crashed, if it did, turn the one thing back on and go to the next. I did this till I got down to the Shadow Quality section. I re-checked the "Use low-detail models on shadows. (LOD) applied, and restarted the game. I played for a few hours and nothing happened. So i went and unchecked it again, restarted the game, got my freeze. I played with doing that two more times and it froze every time it was not using (LOD) but never froze while (LOD) was turned on. At this time I wholly believe whatever the system is rendering without (LOD) is what is causing the freeze. And is it bad enough where it will not produce a system error other than that the system was forced to be shut down (when I hard restart). If this conclusion turns out to be false I will make a new post in this thread, so please do not lock haha.

Thank you for your help, and maybe this can either help fix something with FFXIV, My computer, or someone else's issue!

    EDIT:

Scratch all that. after a few hours of the game running it finally froze. seems My search continues!

Thank you for the update xXanosx.

You may be on to something with the shadow settings. Try lowering some of the shadow settings as well as disabling shadows on NPCs and other players. You may also want to check 'Use low detail models on distant object' if it is not already. You can also change individual settings for NPCs and other players in the 'Character Configuration' settings menu. Try disabling some effects in in that menu.

Were you able to submit a bug report? It may be something you want to try even if you are still trying to solve it on your end.

I ended up downloading FF XV for windows and Elder Scrolls Online for more recent games with similar set-ups, or more hardcore settings. At this time it turns out it's not just FFXIV causing my issues. I'll necro this thread later when I finally find out what is causing my issues and give the answer.
