DirectX Fatal Error 1100000f

Hey there

I have been enjoying FF14 for a great while now without any issues whatsoever - but 'accidently' downloaded Geforce Experience recently and updated my drivers to GEFORCE GAME READY DRIVER 398.36, and after the install, I have been getting the following error:

DirectX Fatal Eroor 1100000f

Some context to the error:

*The Error only persists when the game is run as Windowed or Borderless windowed. It also persists if you are in Fullscreen and alt-tab.
*I have uninstalled Geforce Experience, and reinstalled both the GEFORCE GAME READY DRIVER from Nvidia's homepage and Final Fantasy 14.
*The game runs in DirectX9 mode, but not in DirectX11
*While there is little information on the 1100000f error - what I have been able to find similarities, in that, I have the Geforce GTX 970M graphics card as well as other people getting the error.

Any suggestions would be swell, while I haven't noticed any problems with the DirectX9 version yet, I would still love to be able to play it in DirectX11

It seems that this started happening when you updated your graphics card drivers, have you tried rolling back to the previous version of your graphics driver?

How often does this happen? Does it happen when you log in or after you've been playing for a bit?

Double-check that your laptop isn't overheating and that the vents aren't being blocked.

You can also try a clean boot. Simply open the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. This will make sure that no background processes are interfering with the game.

Tried to go back to the old driver, didn't work - It still pops up the same DirectX Fatal Error

A little tinkering has revealed that the FFXIV can run on the integrated graphics-card instead of the Geforce GTX 970m, if I want to run it in DirectX11. It just seems downright mad to me.

It will happen on login - if the graphics setting is set to DirectX 11 and in Windowed or Borderless Windowed - It will also happen during the game if you change the setting too Windowed or Borderless Windowed or indeed alt-tab, after starting the game. This is only for DirectX11 - DirectX9 has had one stand alone error, that wasn't related to the 1100000f error and it hasn't repeated itself.

Double-check that your laptop isn't overheating and that the vents aren't being blocked.

No overheating on the system - Overheating on the system can cause slowdown of FFXIV (If I don't have maximum fan speed on), but doesn't cause the crash.

If I understood that correctly, DirectX 9 mode works relatively well on the 970M, but you can only get DirectX 11 to work with your integrated graphics card? That makes it sounds like the 970M is the issue or something is interfering with it specifically.

Do you have any overlays open (Geforce Experience, Steam or Discord overlay) or any other programs running while playing the game? If so, try disabling or closing them.

Try setting the game to Windows 7 Compatibility mode. Right-click on the exe file and select 'Properties,' then select 'Compatibility' and choose Windows 7. Also, make sure you anti-virus is not interfering with the game.

Were you able to try the clean boot? You didn't comment on that in your last post.

Hello hynaku. To generate a system report simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'
