The MHW crossover is also looking like it won't be a "do this crappy fate for this reason" like other events. If it's a trial there's no reason to go to the lengths of making a whole trial just to have it go away forever in a month.

Exactly, whereas fates clutter the overworld and in a way 'take over' the overworld for a period of time. That is not well suited to a permanent collaboration, and would have to be redesigned if put back into the game (at which point, why not just put the resources into a new event). Also, aren't the items on the mogstation? That seems like the easiest solution.
