I main an AST, but what class do you recommend for PVP? for a beginner, and how to farm gear, what to do?!

I welcome any tips. Used to play some more PVP focused MMO's like Guild Wars 1 and 2 / WoW, but, since everyone is saying that this PVP is bad, I never got around to it, however, since I'm playing it, and paying for it, I might as well get into it and decide that for myself, because I do enjoy FF14 combat, a lot!

    Thanks!

    (I have Wolves Den unlocked)
I LOVE PvP in this game! In particular I favor the feast. If you would like to test different things out I would recommend you start in the wolves den, read your skills "here potency actually means dmg you do so if it says a skill does 3000 potency it does 3000 damage". Practice on a dummy and you can even have duals. I would start by queuing for the roulette or frontlines since those are the only active things at this time. Be sure if you plan on entering the feast next season you hop on asap when it begins. Once the top 100 players have established a good spot they will all drop off and queues will dramatically drop. It will continue to dwindle until you cannot get any matches unless you wait for a really long time. If you would like more info feel free to hmu in discord. I'm not a pro by any means, but as someone who enjoys PvP here and knows whats typically going on, I'm sure there is something I can help you with happy PvP'ing. Also, some of the PvP gear in this game is the best looking gear to me!

    ADD ON:

Yes, the feast rewards are really worth it "to me at least!" See here: https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...dcgroup=Primal you can click on different seasons to see the rewards from the past. You also get wolf collars as rewards for reaching different ranks which you can trade for the cool looking ranked gear, and yeah your right there will be lots of negativity around PvP, but you trying it before you knock it is the way to go! Glad another member is willing to give it a shot ^^

Thanks for the heads up. Been doing some matches in frontline and I really enjoy how the game handles PVP, it's pretty easy to get in, and I find the fast paced combat very fun on the Ninja. I also get some PVE XP in the frontlines.

Count me in next season, not as a healer, but as a Ninja probably. Yeah, some of the gear looks amazing.

EDIT: What is the PVP XP for?

you used to unlock bonus points for the PvP actions (usually gave shorter cooldowns and increased potency) as you leveled up your PvP rank. They removed that as well in the 4.0 overhaul, as it put new players at a disadvantage. Also many players simply didn't know it exists, like the bonus attributes in PvE

This right here, hits the nail on the head. They used to actually have stats for pvp and gear for pvp even material "or maybe items" for pvp, that was so long ago though.

There are good suggestions already, just adding that you will probably get a hang of it relatively fast by just playing fronline matches during prime time (early to late evening in most cases). In matches with 72 players you'll be anonymous enough to not annoy anyone by being a noob, but it can be a bit overwhelming by the number of participants.

Although I want back the old PvP, the abilities etc., one good thing that came from the 4.0 PvP was the levelled playing field. And that PvP isn't hidden behind end-game anymore. Still, 3.x PvP >>> 4.x PvP

Yeah, been doing Frontlines, also because I want that new healer PVP set for my AST, looks great for just a couple worlf marks. And at the same time, been training my Ninja in PVP.
Thanks for the suggestions. So anyway, PVP XP has a cap? and it's really THAT useless? it's just to show you're a PVP nerd?
It could unlock quality of life things for PVE, or pets or bardings or... so many vanity things, why it doesn't give anything in return?

I'm pretty sure they would've removed PvP levels altogether if there weren't a number of achievements with titles linked to it

Yeah I agree, I do miss doing my trick attack with the stun/chase ability and then silence the healer while I finish off who I was aiming for. Sneaking around as Ninja was REALLY fun back then, but I've adapted and now without my sneak attack lol I found I'm not so good with Nin anymore, but my Mch got better..

    Hi Limith!

Since you played WoW PvP, you might transition well into FFXIV PvP. Some concepts such as burst, pressure, mana conservation (especially as healer), etc. apply in this game as well.

If you were a high tier WoW PvP'er, I suggest that after getting your feet wet in Frontlines, try Feast!

Also, AST is an excellent job to PvP with. Healers in this game have very high healing potencies vs. DPS. You probably already noticed that while playing Frontlines. As such, give AST a try!

If you need help with anything, there are discords and websites available. I highly recommend the Wolf Pup's Den discord and PvPaissa website. Anyway, hope you enjoy FFXIV PvP!
