It doesn't even have to be a barding, having a Rathalos mount could work as well.

They said the Palico is just the quest NPC for the Rathalos quest.
only reward I am aware of so far is the monster hunter potion drinking emote which is really goofy when your not stressing about it ending in time to move

Monster hunter is all about the gear so i would imagine a set of rathalos weapons would be rewards as well.
A pretty good chunk of compatible weapons already exists too so it shouldn't be too much work

Sword and Shield = sword and shield
greatsword = greatsword
switchaxe = greataxe
insect glaive = spear
long sword = katana
dual blades = daggers
bow = bow
light bowgun = gun

Could probably just use the Rathian sword and shield model for a red mage weapon
seems like all you'd need is caster weapons and something for monk since monster hunter doesn't really have fist fighting or magic.

Could even throw in a rathalos glamour armor set since monster hunter world is one size fits all for armor

They could just throw in original weapon skin for those just like how Lightning event had done.

Here I was hoping for Rathalos mount though, would look so much better than Twintania.

the dragon mount make killed the the feel of monster hunter for them. branding won't you have killed the beast to get scales for the branding

What when'd he say that? As far as I know he hasn't given any indication as to what the rewards would be.
