Overmelding the new ilvl 340 gathering set?

Hello everyone. I just got my 340 gathering/crafting sets and I'm trying to figure out how or even if I should overmeld it. I actually have NO clue on what numbers I should be aiming for. All of the guides I can find with the exception of Caimie's crafting guide are all old and outdated. Does anyone know of a current guide that shows what sort of materias I should put in which slots? Or does anyone at least have some numbers I should aim for? I mainly need to know about my gathering set. Should I use more perception in the top slots or a combination of per and gathering? I'm currently working on spiritbonding to get enough materia but after that I'm a bit lost. Any and all help/info will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Oh and I'm probably just going to follow Caimie's guide on overmelding my 340 crafting gear and just do it pretty much how she did her 320 gear. I figure that's probably current enough for me to follow and should give me good enough stats for the future.

I imagine most people are waiting for the next set of timed nodes to see what the HQ requirement and breakpoints for 15% hq chance/90-95% gathering chance will be before melding.

You can, however meld to 800gp now which opens up new options on collectible gathering. My set is currently melded to 800 gp (with antelope stew), 1600 gathering, 1600 perception. I can't recommend that as definite optimal at all, but feels safe enough to me.

I am at PER 1422 and adding HQ dzemael au gratin, PER 8, I'm at 14% HQ on the newest nodes. I am going to guess nothing more than 1450 PER is needed at this point.

If you are running full 340 and nightsteel tools you probably do not need much in the way of melds other than GPs for all our current nodes.

If I caculate correctly, naked the set has PER 1189 and GTH 1583 so you won't need to add any gathering for now, just PER and GPs

Okay thanks you'll. That's a big help. I'll just add a little bit of per and gp and just leave it at that for now. I'd really hate to overmeld everything then find out I did it all wrong when new nodes come out lol. Plus I won't really lose many if any materia if I just stick to the top slots for now. That'll give me more time to collect more materia too. Really slow going unless you buy them all which I'm trying not to do. Trying to be self sufficient here. Got 4 materia VI's out of three sets of spiritbound equipment yesterday so by my count I'll only need a few more million Gotta go get more materials now and do it all over again. Gonna be a long road.

Base stats on the Yamashi gear ie ilvl 340 HQ and 345 Main hand are: 1406 Gathering, 1380 Perception and 710 GP unmelded with no food. The blue Augmented off hand Mineking's sledgehammer and Landking's survival belt actually give a bit higher stats which are: 1415 Gathering and 1399 Perception. Obvsiously with materia the crafted set will yield much better results. So I'm just going to shoot for around 1600 on both Gatherring/Perception without any overmelds and try to get 800 GP if possible. If not then I'll just go as high as I can without wasting precious materia. Some good food should help.

It's worth noting too that some pieces are so easily stat-capped (shoes, legs, gloves for example) that you can safely just overmeld them to the max.

You know what. This one sentence has helped me more than anything lol. I've been trying to figure out how in the world do you know what the stat caps are on gear and for some dumb reason I never noticed that it clearly shows you this at the bottom. I don't know what I was thinking or how I missed that. That is going to help immensely. Still scratching my head on how and why I missed this. Learn something new every day I guess.

Ooh, this is so nice. I cann finally plan out how to overmeld my slots now. Just finished my boots I still can't believe I never noticed those stat caps at the bottom. This isn't near as scary as it was before. Who wants to waste valuable materia. Seriously, this has made my day. Thank you Liam_Harper. Also thank you Shadygrove for the suggestions. Gonna have to start doing more Ixali quests for those lower lv. materias again. That will save a bit of gil too. I'm so happy.
