GM fun

I've been wondering, what do GMs do while we are all out gathering, slaying and crafting? I know they tend to players and aid them when there is a problem but besides that, do they by chance go on alts and mingle unseen? Do they mess with players sometimes just for funsies?

Been rather curious about it.

I don't see why they wouldn't, provided they weren't already heartily sick from having to moderate for it while on the clock.

Usually it's looking through GM requests or questions from more than just through the game such as email or other means of contact and crafting responses for them. You know, "work".

Now do they do anything that we, the players, would consider to be more fun activities? Not usually, although being in a higher management of a game can make a game considerably less fun overall, especially when they have to deal with how annoying we the players can be at times.

I think the playerbase keeps them busy enough that they don't have to worry about "downtime" while they're working. >.>

It's very likely they have their own personal characters, but very unlikely they'd be allowed to play them during work hours, this game has a lot of servers and the volume of tickets is likely at all times high.

I think most gms don't actually play the game themselves. I doubt the bar is very high to become a gm of any mmo.

It really isn't. It's not really much different from being customer service for any sort of app service (although technically, it sorta is that).

If I was a GM, I'd pass my time playing the game of 'Swat the bots" by camping out near the spots the gil farmers pass through regularly and banning them as they come.

I get the impression they don't even have the authority to do that and need to allow the likely even more understaffed STF to deal with them, though.

I know that in XI the GMs managed to get some play time in. Even while on the clock. I think some people even managed to figure out some of the GM's personal characters as I remember a story of a group doing something or getting something made from a GM's personal character when the GM was all sorry got to go and put someone in the Gaol.

Sometimes, when we keep wipping on a raid, I like to think that a GM is controlling the boss for fun, that way I don't feel THAT bad xD
