We pay a monthly fee to be able to play at any given moment. It is SE's job to make sure that even in a power outage, service is continued.

Absolutely! They should have alternative power sources lined up to cover this, like..... steam power, or a cross over warp core, or.....something else.
Furthermore they should have equipment which never breaks down, with an infinitive usage guarantee.
Failure to provide these things should be a trigger for a lifetimes free sub...... and bacon.
