We pay a monthly fee to be able to play at any given moment. It is SE's job to make sure that even in a power outage, service is continued.

Absolutely! They should have alternative power sources lined up to cover this, like..... steam power, or a cross over warp core, or.....something else.
Furthermore they should have equipment which never breaks down, with an infinitive usage guarantee.
Failure to provide these things should be a trigger for a lifetimes free sub...... and bacon.

Hi, a newbie here!

I started playing a few days ago and so far I'm loving it! It is a bummer that this issue happened fairly as soon as I started my journey but I can't really fault them for a big scale downtime like this.

I have to say though, from reading some of the comments here that some people come across as toxic and intolerant and holier-than-thou. I hope that's not a representative of the majority of Eorzeans!

No, the majority are quite casual and fun people. There are a lot of jaded people in the ‘playing for years and too addicted to stop but don’t enjoy it anymore’ crowd but that’s in all MMOs.

Also with regards to the outage, it’s not a good first impression for you, but since I start again in January there has been one long (all day, weekday) maintenance to implement a huge content patch.

Otherwise the game is always up. I think it goes down fairly regularly on a weekday morning for a couple of hours maintenance but most people won’t be playing at this time. Servers are usually steady.

Nah, I'm just poking fun. I'm no Chaos player, but honestly, that's some impressive turnaround for such a huge problem. I'd be grateful that it was resolved as quickly as it was. I'm sure it could've been even worse somehow.
