This is what I get when I finally do get a download going and log in.

Thanks SE, you've really made me glad I've spent several hundred dollars on this game.

That message is what happens if your IP address changes - SE's servers mistake your login as coming from another location and so temporarily suspend access - the email the message mentions is a link to change your SE Account password which will then remove the block. Unfortunately if your internet provider keeps changing your IP address (what is called a 'dynamic IP address'), the only other way to deal with this apart from changing your password each time this happens is to get a SE Security Token or Software Token and set it to your account, that generates a 'One Time Password' that you will have to enter each time you login, as the Security Token/Software Token ignores such IP address changes.

I end up finding a 1.0 link off in dead google land, and installing from that. Currently, my only other option for doing this is creating a new trial account, then never actually using it because then I actually get a download link.

Ignore that 1.0 download link, it's client is completely different to ARR and is now totally useless (if you load it up it will only update a brief patch that changes the login screen to a "FFXIV 1.0 service is no longer available, please purchase and install A Realm Reborn!" message.). DrWho2010's link is the correct link for downloading ARR's client.

Either way, please don't get discouraged!

To lift a login restriction, all you need to do is reset your password. You should have received an email to the address that is associated with your Square Enix account.
