    The Die Is Cast Quest (Spoilers)

    I just completed this quest for the first time... It's the quest where you invade Doma Castle. At the end of the dungeon, during the cutscene, as the Keep's entire ceiling is being held up by Gosetsu, he orders the group to run- flee as he cannot hold it forever.

    Then, as everyone just stands there like a group of idiots, about to be crushed to death because they refuse to listen, Gosetsu takes three bullets from the pathetic wench who refuses to die. And the group still doesn't leave. He warns them again that he cannot hold the ceiling forever and Hien launches into a 10 minute monologue! I didn't even listen to it because it made no sense to do that! "RUN!!!" I screamed at my computer monitor! "The dude got shot three times while holding up a thousand pounds of ceiling! One more cannon shot and you're all done for!"

    I couldn't believe that cutscene! You can bet my butt would have said my goodbyes and been out of there in 10 seconds, not 15 minutes! How much would Gosetsu's soul been tortured if they had just stood there long enough to have the ceiling cave in on every last one of them?!

    There's a thing called "suspension of disbelief" that's good to have when it comes to experiencing media in general.

    I'd be here all day if I had to list every single time I've encountered a similar "Take your time" stunt in a game, movie, etc.

    Alphinaud views the 10 minute monologue as a brief one liner, too short for the occasion. He's just getting into a really in depth dialogue when Gosetsu grabs the gun and shoots him.

    Yeah, I know it happens all the time in media, and I hate every single one of them. Want me to have a sense of urgency? Then have the actors show a sense of urgency... don't have them all sit down for tea and crumpets, or take a nap, or launch into a 15 minute monologue when they have 5 seconds before they all die. I will never ever enjoy that. My suspension of disbelief isn't that strong. My brain just reads it as bad writing.

    I'm the guy that counts how many times a gun has been fired before it runs out of bullets. I'm the guy who counts in his head how many seconds a bomb has before it detonates. It's how my brain works.

    I had exactly the same feeling throughout the scene. It was torturous to watch and spoiled the intended emotional farewell. “Why are we not running? He told us to run. Can’t we retreat to a safe spot and have this conversation across the room? How is he still standing and WHY ARE WE STILL NOT RUNNING?”

    I think this is just an unfortunate side effect of the way cutscenes are animated.
    Ever since 2.0, characters just kind of snap between their pre-set poses and movements, unlike in 1.0 where every cutscene was animated by hand so movement was much more natural.
    Now characters can't move and talk at the same time, this was especially noticeable in the latest patch, when the characters are having a conversation while sitting and they just talk while their idle sitting pose remains completely static, it looks jarring and unnatural.
    We do get some unique animations for characters every once in a while but even then it feels like each of them was animated individually of one another even if they're supposed to be a part of the same scene (going back to the latest patch while trying to remain as non-spoilery as possible, there's a scene that has a bunch of dynamic shots and a completely new set of animations for a certain character that's unique for that cutscene only, but for some reason the animations don't flow into one another so they still snap between them unnaturally).

    I don't know if stuff like this is done to save time, memory or both but it's one of my biggest complaints when it comes to this game's story and presentation.
