Which Collaborations would you like to see in future

There has been a few collaborations with FFXIV that's either within the same franchaise (FF11 and FF13), within same company (Dragonquest) or across other gaming companies (Yokai Watch, Monster Hunter).

What other future collaborations would you like to see in FFXIV?

None really. I admit I am kind of weary of these non-FF series crossovers and would just like to see FFXIV-centric events. But I'm probably in the minority here.

I agree more with this, especially given that it seems to require an arm and a leg to get a collaboration started, and maybe a year to actually put it into the game.

    Nah.

The point of cross-overs is the same as cereal and board games having cross-over marketing. It raises the brand awareness of each other, even if they're not meant to steal customers/subscribers.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that if a third-party company is open to collaboration, then it should be done, because those things are a lot of fun, and also because they tend to be limited time events, it also is a large source of annoyance for people who miss out. You're not forced to play the collaboration events if you're not into it.

However, because FFXIV is a world-wide game, and most other MMO's are region-locked in some unreasonably asinine fashion, getting copyright/trademark clearance requires getting that clearance from Japan, North America, Europe, and even KR/CN if they're to ever get that content.

Here's an example of a crossover that would be impossible:

The Energizer/Duracell bunny. Because Energizer owns the "pink battery bunny" trademark in the US, and Duracell owns it in the rest of the world.

There's also various trademarks where the title of a game (eg biohazard) was renamed (eg resident evil) for one market and thus the cross-over branding would not work, however they could still pull it off by using the name used in each market and just put a subtitle on it in the non-game marketing. It's not like films and video games ever really reference their game name.

However as for what I think is not unreasonable:

    Disney:
Wreck it Ralph would be the only explicit cross-over that makes sense. Though it would probably have to be a crossover that throws suspension of disbelief out the window for the event. Most other Disney properties don't establish a "world beyond our world".

Hence Kingdom Hearts is basically "what if star trek but each world was a fairy tale?", in the same sense that the "Once Upon a Time" tv series is "What if the Fairy Tales were real, and they were displaced here?"

That said, Disney should just hand Square-Enix a carte blanche license to build a MMO based on the Disney properties in the same style as Kingdom Hearts, but fleshed out in a way that would be "the Disneyland of MMO's", the ultimate theme park MMO.

    Square-Enix:
Neir - has already established the idea of parallel worlds
Chrono Trigger/Cross - also established the idea of parallel worlds
Kingdom Hearts - It's more likely that KH would pull from FFXI/XII/XIII/XIV/XV since these games came out after KHI did. Because this is already a Disney cross-over license, it's probably hard to put the Disney-owned characters into FFXIV. Though it would not be unreasonable to have a cross over event explicitly in FFXIV for KHIII. Like a dungeon that is based on one of the non-Disney properties, and outfits based on the non-Disney KH lead characters.

    Nintendo:
Mario - this is so self-explanatory, refer to Super Mario RPG. Apparently SE owns the rights to the non-Nintendo original characters that appeared in it. Next to wanting proper remakes of FF6 and Chrono Trigger, this is still on the top of my list.

    Activision Blizzard:
WoW , seems like the obvious cross-over, but unlike Monster Hunter, it's a little bit harder to pull off as there are no cross-overs in WoW (that I'm aware and aren't fanfics), However the entire basis for Warcraft to exist involves a portal from another realm, so it's not like that potential was never there.

    Capcom:
Capcom makes a lot of fighting game series, though I think none of them really invoke a reason for a MMORPG crossover. Darkstalkers probably has more potential. Devil May cry, might fite the actual theme of FFXIV better. I'd love a puzzle dungeon based on Ghost Trick, but that's just not even the right kind of game. The Street Fighter games would be the most obvious to try a cross-over with, but I don't see a way for that to fit either other than just dropping a dungeon based on one of the SFII stages and having the SFII characters as the actual boss fights.

(Company formerly known as gamepot, and SE has partnered with before, now called GMO Internet):
Wizardry. Too bad the original developers basically crashed and burned Wizardry Online. It probably wouldn't be that much of a stretch to transplant the storyline into a Raid series for FFXIV.

    Namco:
Soul Calibur and Tekken. Soul Calibur has had cross-overs before, so that's not an unreasonable thing.
The Tower of Druaga is... quite literately already in the game as PotD.

    Nexon:
Already partnered with SE for FFXI mobile. It would not be a stretch to cross-over XI a few different ways, while also cross-overs. Though I don't think any of Nexon's current titles are even graphically at par with FFXIV, and only Vindictus is even in the NA region.

    Sega:
    PSO2 Please.

Overall though, I think there just needs to be a push from the developers to talk to each other. The main issue with cross-overs has little to do with the assets, story or mechanics, but the actual legal obligations. So if an event can only from for 3 months, then it will only run for 3 months and then disappear, never to re-appear, and any assets in the game engine would have to be dummied out so they can't be used again. Hence having a pet or minion has to be negotiated as a permanent addition to the game, where as dungeons and boss monsters can disappear after and can't be put back into the game without being patched back in again. Fighting games are usually the best to have crossovers with, because there is usually no obstacle (eg storyline) that says they can't just exist. Some titles like SFII and Soul Calibur have a storyline, but it's unique for each character, so you can usually drop whoever you want into it as long as the visual style fits, anachronisms and all.

    Street Fighter.

    Because I love Akuma.

Seriously though, I'd love a collaboration with a famous fighting game. They already did it with Tekken 7, adding Noctis to the roster. Why not Street Fighter this time?

I would love a Kingdom Hearts event. Especially since Sora and his group can travel to different worlds anyway so it at least makes a bit sense that they would land here.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
