Can we talk about the elephant in the room - Permanent Bans from the Official Forums

If people actually want the official forums to be a thing, Square mainly needs to fix the reputation of this website. I can't speak for others but out of the decent/ good players that I personally know, two of them actually post here with an interest in contributing to the conversation. The rest of them either ignore the forums entirely because of its reputation or just visit here for the memes or to see the drama that occurs when people bring up especially stupid ideas. The last time I actually saw folks I know post on here seriously was when Sfia Pirion posted a thread about the BLM situation in Deltascape which was around Sept. of 2017.

Also the character limit on these forums along with some of the moderation is practically archaic. I get making one or two mistakes every now and then, but as OP has shown in some of the links they shared, the number of people who have been banned for especially dumb reasons is surprising.

You seemed to get upset that I pointed out that reddit isn’t quite as deep as you implied. My point was that the bulk of the posts on reddit are not about raids or balancing or even varied- its mostly predictable fluff. The bulk of redditors do not raid. You’ll find it pretty similar here, because the bulk of posters here do not raid. Shallow topics are the norm pretty much everywhere because outside of the balance discord xiv discussions don't really get into the fun nitty gritties.

As I said before, I agree that there should be an appeal process of sorts, assuming one wasn't banned for something more serious. Cheers.

I'm not upset about anything. I'm pointing out your backpeddling (reddit is all fluff, no it isn't I didn't say that, but reddit is all fluff) and your aversion to keep on topic in regards to something you actually agree with.

Usually there is a way to appeal bans, if these forums have a way I don't know.

I tried to appeal to them to unban my main account about 2 years after it was initially banned via email, the response I got was 'this decision is final and cannot be overturned.'
If you're curious the "offense" was saying f*** in a thread about Paul Walker's death. Yes, THAT long ago.
It was especially unfair because I had already been handed a 14 day ban for language, and a couple days into that ban I got another email about the aforementioned post and the ban was just made permanent.

My apologies, I was on my mobile and it's autocorrected me. I was meant to say "And what if you'd been banned from here back in beta like so many others?" It was an attempt to bring back the thread to talking about people being banned, not what they hate about reddit. I was not meaning to threaten anything.

Absolutely agree that people will complain about being banned when they have knowingly broken rules. But, if you look through the posts I linked in the first post, there are a ton of stories also repeated in this thread. Receiving multiple bans for the same offense. Getting banned for asking a moderator to help fix their post when they realised they'd made a mistake. Getting banned for literally nothing, not even posting here. I know dozens of people personally who have had lifelong bans for things like asking why there was so much maintenance. Posting memes. Etc. There quite literally -has- been people banned for no apparent reason. And a lot of them.

It's a hypothetical question, the intent of which is to find out what recourse you would take if you were banned from the forums permanently. How would you communicate your feelings about the game to the devs? You'd lose your ability to praise and defend the game as much as give critiques about the game.

Regarding "no apparent reason"...did you read either link that was posted? The same guy got banned for the same thing four times in a row. Not repeated action, no the literal same post got him four bans. Somebody else got banned for aggression when they were literally asking people to tone their aggression down. Maybe the foolish ones aren't the ones who think the moderators are perhaps a bit triggerhappy.

I don't recall, but I do remember it was for something benign.
