Magic resistance debuff?
What a ground breaking idea! How come no one thought of that??

Only utility we could make an argument for is some kind of debuff paired with Thunder. Magic would make the most sense as it would increase our own personal dps. I never want to see someone ask for a BLM raise. Please delete your BLM if you are pushing for this.

It woulnd't. DPS would be lowered so that the Magic Down puts the Black mage at the same spot.Only utility we could make an argument for is some kind of debuff paired with Thunder. me neither would try resistance buffs/debuffs for blm... for me blm uniqueness is his infinity mp pool wouldn't it be interesting to build blm utility around his manapool? what about a skill used by blm that gives other caster the effect of the whm no mp skill for a certain duration? (no more personal blm dmg but grp magic buff in general) or the opposite a skill used by blm that soak up the mp spent by grps party member if they use magic skills in that skill duration? (more mana less stance switching more personal blm dmg)
if blm get utility back at some point it should be something unique and not copy pasted from other jobs hm? anyhow its time that blm & sam will lose this "raw selfish" image for two reasons 1) SE can't handle it in execution 2) the com is fighting each other again and again for a problem which can't be solved just with pot-adjustments...

Did think of something MP based back in Heavensward, it was with Flare. So whatever mp you sacrificed to cast Flare, something like 10% or so of that MP used would get distributed to nearby party members kind of thing, but that starts trespassing on Brd/Mch territory at that point, lol. Still something like would be neat, maybe with Foul instead? (Though prefer the no MP cost of Foul) So... like some much aether/magic gets dumped into Foul that there's some lingering effect from it. And if not MP, then how about an AOE buff to nearby parties members, tiny boost of speed or damage maybe?

Thinking on other Final Fantasy titles, something that could be interesting, and maybe could provide some SMN-BLM synergy is Vivi and Steiner's magic sword ability.
In FFXIV terms that could be translated into something like adding a damage up percentage to all weapon skills of all party members around target party member (basically something that can hit all the melee and tanks) and changes all damage they deal to magic damage (as opposed to slashing/piercing/blunt). This could encourage a new party comp with BLM/SMN as the two ranged DPS if you can coordinate that skill with Contagion from Garuda.

BLM have there own version of shirk/shade walker
all the utility it should get
just in case your tank cant handle your big deeps
manaward becomes like shake it off, aoe defence fir all.. (with 3 astral stacks and enochian up, it has the highest defence)

Manaward and BLM's teleports are technically self utility so they can do mechanics easier and keep up dealing their massive damage. Sadly balance isn't perfect and in high level parties they damage doens't make up for a good SMN entirely but the jobs are balanced well enough that any skilled BLM will be a powerhouse even if they can't be on part with the best comps.
They want BLM's appeal to be raw damage, it shoudln't get party buffs. If anything, they could get some way of taking advantage of other party member's raid buffs better since in its current state it isn't very consistent to do so.

Could make Samurais, Blamurais, and every 'selfish' dps that follows just get more from Buff effects on them.
Instead of +10% they get +20%. They don't buff everyone else but they make the most use of buffs that are there.
