    The Culling: Moving into 5.0

    What Actions, Abilities, or Mechanics do you see getting dropped, folded into others, or outright removed to make room for the new moving forward into Not-Garlemald?

    As a few examples, using Black Mage

    Between the Lines: Folded into Leylines. Reactivating Leylines while it is active performs Between the Lines. BTL's activation requires at least one second after casting Leylines to be functional (So you don't double tap yourself into a spell interrupt)

    Enochian is folded into AF/UI as a trait.

    Fire 4 and Blizzard 4 are folded into the same action, such as in PVP.

    I can see them getting rid of RDM's Tether spell.

    I'm not even sure what they were thinking when they added it to the list of RDM abilities.

    WHM: Lilies need to either be removed, or updated to something that is actually relevant. The very minor cooldown reduction is barely noticeable.

    DRK: Dark Arts spam definitely needs to be on its way out. The [Dark Arts] job [Dark Arts] is [Dark Arts] really [Dark Arts] tedious. Living Dead also needs a rework.

    SMN: Tri-bind has been a meme forever. Make it useful or cut the fat. Pet control has also been awful since the very beginning.

    SCH: Pet control has also been awful since the very beginning.

    MNK: Tornado Kick and Riddle of Fire are just awful.

    MCN: Just LOL. This job has so many issues its not even worth talking about.

    DRG: Maybe one day this job won't be the butt of every floor tank joke. Animation Locked forever!

    That's all that comes to mind off the top of my head lol.

    Maintenance buffs in general, that is to say Heavy Thrust, Hot Shot, straight shot, twin snakes, storm's eye, and huton. I'd rather see them become passive abilities or conversely, have their buffs folded in to other spells. I'd rather see every buff in that vein become like Shifu/Jinpu, that is to say they occur naturally as part of your dps combos so you don't have to think about it.

    BRD: I'd like to see Refulgent Arrow / Straight Shot work similarly to how Ruin 2 / Ruin 4 work where the action changes when the proc happens (though they would need to change Refulgent Arrow to refresh the Straight Shot buff if they did this).

    WAR/PLD: Could probably figure out some way to combine the Tank/DPS stances into a single button that switches depending on which stance you're in (i.e. how it works in PvP), though the one thorn in that idea is what this action would do when you have neither stance up.

    Agreed on ability and button consolidation. SB did a good job of adding relatively few new abilities to the base rotations, but even so, most jobs still have WAY too many individual buttons to press. No one is asking for a brain dead 1, 2, 3, repeat rotation, but having to press 15-20 different buttons every fight is beyond insane.

    There are ways to free up space without culling abilities, although some jobs definitely do have a bit of dead weight.

    1-2-3 abilities getting squashed down into 1-1-1 would free up quite a bit of space for melee's.
    Deliverance/Defiance and Shield/Sword could be merged into one button.
    Enochian could be a trait, Fire IV/Blizzard IV could also be one button that changes depending on AF/UI.
    Summon Bahamut/Enkindle Bahamut could be one button.
    Jolt II/Impact could be one button.

    They need to either make Bind/Sleep useful for content, or remove it. I was under the impression that them not removing these would mean they would be useful. They're situational useful in leveling dungeons when you over-pull and need some crowd control, but 4.x is almost over and we have never used them.

    Dragoon:
    -Remove "Heavy Thrust"
    -Remove "True Thrust"
    -"Impulse Drive" now combos into "Vorpal Thrust" and "Disembowel"
    -"Vorpal Thrust" now grants Damage+10% buff for 30 seconds.
    -"Wheeling Thrust" and "Fang and Claw" now share a recast and are no longer separate abilities.

    These changes open up 3 slots for DRG and streamline and simplify their combo architecture. Why does DRG need 2 completely separate combo openers? Ninja, Warrior, Dark Knight, Samurai, and Paladin have 1 Weapon Skill to open up their combo branches (NIN=Spinning Edge, DRK= Hard Slash, PLD=Fast Blade, WAR= Heavy Swing). WAR and SAM have their damage buff baked into the 2nd attack as Storm's Eye/Jinpu. Why does DRG need a separate GCD (which has no combo) to apply their damage buff? So, either this, or remove True Thrust and make Heavy Thrust combo into Vorpal Thrust and grant Vorpal Thrust the old Heavy Thrust buff. Secondly, by allowing WT and F&C share the same button, we save a button. The abilities can just swap as they proc like GK/Nastrond do.
