Error when closing game

Computer recently updated Windows 10, and ever since, I've been consistently getting the following errors every time I close the game. So, entirely possible it's something on my end that needs fixing (or yet another thing Windows broke). I've also had a similar crash while trying to tab out of the game, though I have yet to reproduce that particular error to document it.

Please try the following suggestions:

- Switch to DirectX 9 mode (select ‘Config’ from the launcher)
- Update/reinstall Graphics card drivers
- Disable all programs/overlays running in the background
- Perform a clean boot*
- Set compatibility mode to Windows 7/8**
- Make sure that any anti-virus software they have has the appropriate exceptions
- Install game on C drive (The same drive as the Operating System)

*To perform a clean boot for Windows 8/10: Open the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. For Windows 7: Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press Enter to start the System Configuration utility. On the General tab, click the Selective startup option, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box. On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all. For Mac: Restart the Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key. The Apple logo appears on your display. Release the Shift key when you see the login window.

**To change compatibility mode, right click on the exe file (Default location: C:\Program Files (x86)\SquareEnix\Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn\boot\ffxivboot.exe), right click it and select ‘Properties.’ Select the ‘Compatibility’ tab and select an earlier version of Windows (most likely 8 or 7).

Switching to DirectX 9 mode prevents the game from launching at all. Pressing 'Play' while DirectX 11 Support is set to 'Off' immediately crashes on launch, producing the following error.

Drivers for the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 card have just been updated for an unrelated issue.
Anti-virus software has been unchanged since prior to the Windows 10 update, when the game performed without issue.
Game has been installed on C: drive since prior to the Windows 10 update, when the game performed without issue.

Clean Boot and Compatibility Mode will be tested when game returns online.

Set Compatibility Mode to Windows 7
Open launcher, log in, start game, select character, stay in game for a couple of minutes, Exit Game, produces original errors.

Set Compatibility Mode to Windows 8
Repeat previous steps, produces original errors.

Perform Clean Boot
Repeat previous steps, produces same original errors.

For good measure, confirmed through OEM website that NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 drivers were up to date, downloaded and installed additional update
Repeat Previous steps, produces original errors.

All tests performed without any active background programs or overlays.

You mentioned you updated the graphics card drivers but your system report looks like they are still out of date. Try downloading the drivers here and installing them that way: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx

Yeah, sure. But:
However, please note that your notebook original equipment manufacturer (OEM) provides certified drivers for your specific notebook on their website. NVIDIA recommends that you check with your notebook OEM about recommended software updates for your notebook. OEMs may not provide technical support for issues that arise from the use of this driver.
Led me to check through the MSI support site, providing the certified 382.05 version.

However, installing version 398.11, restarting computer, and performing previous test steps still produces the original set of errors.

What power mode is your laptop using? If you are using one that is designed to save power, it can be switching from the dedicated GPU to the integrated graphics card, causing the crash. Make sure the laptop is set to the high performance battery mode. Also keep it plugged in if possible.

It may be worth checking out any optional or recommended Windows 10 updates that may not be installed automatically.
