    What's good about this game?

The combat in this game is probably one of the worst I have ever seen... so I'm looking for something good about this game, could you tell me what do you think is good and why? I'm thinking about subscribing but I don't know if anything will change later on, currently I'm level 40 and the cons I see:
-the story seems to be super generic with almost zero voice acting
-the combat is ultra boring and also character tends to have multiple skills that are pretty much useless
-the waiting times for dungeons is pretty long (usually around 20 minutes)
-the amount of backtracking in story is just hilarious...

Will anything from this list be better later in the game? Or maybe something will appear that will just blow my mind?

I don't want to sound harsh but well - that's what I trully see when I play the game.

I mean what are you actually looking for in the game. It's a little early to talk about your skills and real combat since you don't have your full toolkit yet and from what i can see you have the hall of the novice gear and no job crystal at lvl 40. That means you are missing the job quests and skills that will help round out your experience. I can say that rouge/ninja has no useless skills, however they are given to you slowly so it takes a while for a job from lvl 1 to fill out and get smoother.

The story vastly improves once you get past the current section, takes a dip for the worse in the 2.3-2.4 section, then ramps up well in to Heavensward. There's less "run here to talk to x and report back" and pointless fetch quests the further you go.

The fights get more complex and exciting the further you go. Once you hit 50 there will be a ton of content you can do - namely EX primals of the ones you're fighting in the story now- that will give you a taste of what end-game is like. 24 man raids and Coil will also open up. Your job likely won't feel "complete" until you get to level 60 or so, but there will be more for you to do during fights at least. Note that this applies to old end-game content and not necessarily to dungeons and story stuff.

Dungeon queue times for DPS never change much, though you might find your queue times decrease a little the more dungeons you can be thrown into. Generally speaking if you want a fast queue as DPS you go with a tank/healer friend. Queuing in progress might shorten it a bit too if you don't mind joining a run mid-way.

I'd say if you get through ARR and aren't liking the game, you've given it a fair try. As good as the story gets in HW, as fun as some of the fights are, the game isn't for everyone. And they put a jump potion on the Mog Station for a reason... easier to accept cash to skip the worst parts of the game than go back and fix them.

Personally if I don’t find I’m enjoying a game within the first 30 minutes or so I bail and find something else, so imo you’ve made it really far in the game considering you don’t seem to be that into it. I would say by this point you have a pretty decent idea of what the game has to offer, but if you are on the fence you could always just stick around long enough to hit max level and see how you feel then.

Well the problem with combat is the main one... friend told me that I will have to use like 20 skills to be actually good in dungeons but in the same time it's like 10-15% increase in dps compared to using 5-6 skills. And I'm not sure if he was trolling or is it really, because such design would be pretty unrewarding.

So in other words... the measurments of your skill in this game is actually just testing how many buttons has your mouse?
Because it sounds like that's the case.

If you like Japanese culture, there's a lot of reference of it in the latest expansion.

Storywise it has its ups and downs. Gameplay wise - it's fun but content wise it may get dry at times. Old content might get obsolete quickly (Diadem)
Community wise, their mostly nice gamers though a minority are still kinda mean.
PVP wise - I don't have any comments since i don't really focus on that but I heard it hasn't been up to par.
Forum wise - it's kinda active, though Reddit seems more active.

In my personal opinion, if you aren't enjoying the game at all now you probably won't like it any better later.
    DPS queues won't get better.
I do agree with others the story pacing gets better in the expansions but if you aren't invested at all now there's no guarantee you'll enjoy them any more. ARR has a lot of setup for later events.
Combat at max level involves figuring out how to maximize your rotation around the fight mechanics. Every job will have 20+ buttons and while some will be situational they should all be on your hot bars.

If you want to give it more of a chance I'd say unlock your job and see if the combat style appeals to you more when you have some Ninja skills to weave in. Otherwise I say move on to something else.

You missed out, sadly you can’t enjoy the original primal/savage content as they were since no one does them synced. Everything you said is what you will experience all the way up to lvl 70. The hook is dressing up and playing house.
