5.0 hints?

I got back into FFXIV during the SB hype, maybe a few months prior to launch. I was busy catching up on leveling and doing my msq, I didn't even know the forums were a thing or who Yoshi-P was.

Since I'm sure I'm not the only one who hasn't really been through an expansion launch before I was curious what insight anyone who has might have. I've since seen articles and things about the Spiderman shirt and hints/info that was given out about 4.0 but I don't know when to expect them or when to start looking.

Is it all info that gets dropped between 4.56 (or whatever the last patch is) and 5.0? Does it happen earlier than that? Is it all in the last month or so before launch? Do people ever look back at an interview and think 'ooooh, this was hinted to us way back then!' or is it information that is pretty obviously doled out?

I'm sure the vast majority of the details about 5.0 are hammered out. I think the most recent msq cutscenes where we played as a character other than our own are likely allusions to 5.0 more than to a continued 4.x plotline. I'm sure if there are new races or classes they've been hammered out already. Scarily enough they've probably already got things like job adjustments in the works for it...

... but when do we find anything out?

To be clear - this isn't a "I want dancer! We need Viera! No add three new tank classes!" sort of thread - I'm not really asking for speculation about 5.0 as much as I'm asking when and how should I start speculating about 5.0 since I find myself thinking about it more and more lately.

The last two expansions were announced at Fanfests held towards the end of the year, including teaser trailers, with the expansions launching about six-eight months later, so it's highly likely we won't hear or see anything about it til the next Fanfest (which is in late October). I guess it's possible they may instead reveal something at E3 or the Tokyo Game Show, but I doubt it. So we have a few more months to go til we hear anything conclusive about it I'm afraid.

November 16th, at Fan Fest is probably when we will first hear any actual information about 5.0. And that'll just be the name and where we're going and Yoshi wearing an Iron Man t-shirt or something.

Outside of hints from story elements within the game, most of what you'll either outright learn or get teased from involves the Fanfests. There are 3 fanfests overall and we'll learn new things for the next xpac at each one/get hints towards certain things as well.

We'll almost certainly learn of one new job at the first fanfest as well as the area we will be going to.

Basically we'll start actually getting info for the next xpac during/after 4.4.

TBH the first Red mage clue was given in the Rising seasonal event inside of 'The eighteenth floor' (2015 i think?) where 2 NPCs say something along the lines of:

NPC 1:What comes after White and Black? Red!
NPC 2:Red? Don't you mean Blue?

So yuh, we shall all be clueless together until Yoshida reveals his shirt come Fanfest XD (The ''red mage'' shirt was the Scarlet Witch one iirc)

That wasn't so much of a hint as in a tongue-in-cheek reference to fan speculation and "demand"

And as for the building blocks for the next expansion, so far SB is following the same pattern as ARR and HW. .0 is the base story and .1 adds something to it, while being its own thing to be continued later. .2 and .3 are continuations of the .0 story and for a good amount draw a conclusion to that perticular story. .4 brings in new elements and .5 expands upon them with both segwaying into the next expansions .0 story. This is barring the 1.X version since it didn't go up to .5 and I never played it.

As an example for the patches:
2.0 initial Garlean storyline regarding the Scions and Primals
2.1 Introduces the concept of a Primal in a new light
2.2 and 2.3 touches more on the Primal threat with known Primals and what they are and do.
2.4 Reintroduced the questioning in the concept of Primals with the introduction of Shiva, as well as build the Ishgardian foundation
2.5 Brings about more info regarding Ishgard and the Dragonsong War, and opens the path to Ishgard.

3.0 Initial Heavensward syory that begins with the Dragonsong War and ends wirh Ishgards corruption.
3.1 Expands upon the concept of Hydaelyn and her shards, and how the affect one another.
3.2 and 3.3 Draw an end to the Dragonsong War
3.4 Expand on Hydaelyn's shards and how they affect us and draw Ala Mhigo into the limelight.
3.5 Prepares us to go to Ala Mhigo

4.0 The liberation of both Ala Mhigo and Doma
4.1A continuation of Ala Mhiga's liberation exploring its aftermath and reform
4.2 and 4.3 exploring the aftermath of Doma's liberation
4.4 Back to Ala Mhigo gor stuff, lol

Am I the only one who wants Job hunts to return?

I kind of enjoyed searching for different monsters while I was leveling a class.

This helped me kill DPS que times and do something I enjoyed: killing monsters and getting XPs!

Also, perhaps for Guildheist? Guildheist are pretty simple, but stopping at LV. 40 had my head scratching.

With all of the back-patches highlighted like that, I wonder if 4.x is going to give us some more insight into Hydaelyn/shards/primals/aether. It's been woven in since 2.0, and I'd like to see them continue that story, too, since it's very clear that "Garlemald/the Empire" isn't our endgame enemy, the Ascians are (and possibly more that we're unaware of/not expecting.)

I'm curious if they're going to make a new tank/healer combo since we have two DPS this exp and perhaps we need a break from that.

Unless they managed to make three new jobs, but iirc they're not going to do that anymore.
