I can't remember if it was a translated interview or a (much) earlier dev post, but we already knew the amount of accessory slots would decrease. Today, we only learn the extent of that decrease and are given mere examples of what accessory stats will look like.

We were told this a long time ago, when they first mentioned removing slot cost. The wording was a little vague but this was always one of the probable outcomes.
After reading the back and forth above I think 1 thing must be kept in mind. The changes and improvements have a dual purpose. First they are ment to improve the trainwreck that was FFXIV at release. At the same time these change must be planned with regards as to how well they will carry over to Ver2.0. Melding those 2 concepts together may limit what they can do now. I do not know for sure. I would much rather have this now then have to wait for Ver2.0 to get a lot of these changes. Who knows, after the new game is established expansion packs may make the changes some of you want for single uber accessories ala Rajas ring. There are just no plans for any of that now.
I'm okay with everything except the reduction of earring slots. Square Enix, please take another look at this, as now you've made us have less equipment slots than FFXI users. Plus, I'm offended by being forced to have equilibrium of the ears with an earring on each one! Re-think the logic on this one. If we can have two rings, we should be able to have two earrings.
for the sake of inv space quality>quanity.I want the same amount like we have now. Its not that i cant deal with "less" Slots. The point is that we got promised a revamp of Stats and abolish of the Slotcost. That is what im waiting for since a long Time and not for Cutting My Fingerslots and Earslots. Whats that about?
If they want to remove something we dont need, then what about the Packslot? There are no Items you can actually put into it. So why keep that, but get rid of 4 Accessoryslots, when we actually could use it?
Its a Step backwards imo and we still dont get a Cape-Slot?! <_<
IF the Slosts got removed, then its actually the same as having 9 Slots + Slotcost. Just that some people wear 3 Rings, does not mean that you cant use the other Slots. I.E. 2 Lower tier Rings ( Cost: 3 ) + 2 Lower tier Earring ( Cost: 2 ), + Neck. That is 5, no? What we will have after Revamp: Changed/Lowered Stats and 5 Accessories. That is also 5, no?
We should have at least TWO Earrings.
So change Ears back to 2, add Cape ( DONT have to be visible ) and i would like it. Everything else is a Step backwards.
Speaking of logic... You have ten fingers, you do not however have ten ears.I'm okay with everything except the reduction of earring slots. We'll have to wait and see what the stats have in store.
Before then, we can only speculate based on published information.
I.e. Dated Garnet Earring gives +14 fire resistance. Wear two, accessory cost of 8.
The new Garnet Earring is a pair that gives +25 fire resistance.
