Pirate Class/Job for Mechanist?

If Rogues turn into Ninjas

Is it not only natural that Mechanists turn into Pirates.

I was thinking of a Gun in one hand, sword in another. Taking influence from Satasha (Hard) Dungeon as well as the DPS Caster of Red Mage.

Im not skilled at comming up with abilities and junk when Im not dedicated...maybe i'll take this post seriously another time. But y know I just thought that'd be a cool job

Speaking of which. When is Rogue going to have the subclass of Thief...now that is something to be entertained.

Corsair is the FF historical precedent you're looking for. But if they do add it, it won't be a branch off of Machinist, it'll be its own entirely new thing.

Originally there was a gun-using pirate-themed class planned for the game that has never been implemented yet has been mentioned since version 1.0 of FFXIV, called 'Musketeer' or 'MSK' for short - they even have a Guild with their class icon at the Coral Tower (it's the icon with two crossed flintlocks).

Sadly though, whatever was planned for the class was utilized for MCH and thus it's pretty clear now MSK will never be implemented sadly - it would have made a logical choice as MCH's 'base' class in any event (Rostnsthal, the burly roegadyn pirate who first teaches you gunplay in the MCH Job quests is technically a MSK - note the flintlock pistol he wields).

Hence unfortunately SE seems to have moved away from 'base class leading to a Job' and now just kick off with Jobs period, and MCH is no different. If you're after a specific 'pirate' class, that is technically what MRD is meant to be anyway (lore wise most of Eorzea's pirates are meant to favour the visceral feel of the great axe tearing through flesh and bone than simply shooting someone with a gun), so nothing is stopping you glamouring your MRD/WAR accordingly. Or MCH too, for that matter.

B-but... Rogues originate in Limsa, where there is a pirate issue... And Machinist starts in Ishgard, where there are not pirates that we know of...? I mean, I lied... Sky pirates. But that's in the sea of clouds :| No, I kid, I kid, I see your point, but...
Machinist, Dark Knight, Astrologian, Samurai, and Red Mage are all already jobs. They don't have predecessors like the other classes. I'm guessing it's because they start level 30+.

i wouldnt mind them adding smaller classes for them so people can start with Drk,Mch,Ast,Rdm,Sam(or have the choice of rogue at the beginning as well)
but i understand its too much of a issue since they dont have af1 gear and would have to move the NPC

Actually it isn't. It came from Wizardry. Wiz's Ninja = half fighter, half thief.

What Final Fantasy doesn't have are lock-picking, trap-disarming, and trap planting. The Thief in Wizardry does all of this. The Thief in Ultima simply has higher starting agility/dexterity, and lower risk of being caught stealing. You also can't do this in Final Fantasy short of the combat move.

So far all intents the Thief/Rogue in Final Fantasy is simply not what it is in other games. So a straight-up "Pirate" or "Musketeer" or "Corsair" or whatever you want to consider a precursor job into Machinist is probably not in the cards.

However. Given that there are NPC's labeled as gunners in the Rogue job storyline, and the leader of the yellow jackets has one. It would be pretty hard to erase the fact that that there is supposed to be a gun-type of class.
