Thank you for the information pribilof.

As others have stated, your Intel integrated graphics do not meet the minimum requirements for the game (and aren't officially supported). Switching to DirectX 9 mode turns off some graphical settings so it would make sense that you gained some frames per second by doing that. You will need to upgrade your PC (or in the case of a laptop, purchase a new one), in order to meet the hardware requirements.

Please be aware that the PC and Mac versions are not the same entitlement. If you have the PC version and want to play it on Mac, you will need to purchase the Mac version. Keep this in mind if you decide to purchase a new laptop.

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

yes, unfortunately I need it for work, and am going to be moving over to Mac sometime in the future. I could boot camp camp into windows on a mac, so that would be a possibility.

I did read the letter from Yoshi P about how it was a known issue on the Mac and how SE issued refunds to all. But that was old and I am hoping developers fixed since release of Stormblood. Can anyone confirm?

The mac version works fine now, yeah. You can pick up the complete edition for $60 on the SE store or Amazon. Main issue at this point is just that macbooks lack a proper dedicated gpu to run the game well. You could go the eGPU route I mentioned in my first post, but it's expensive and you'd need to do a lot of research. I don't think you can custom order a macbook with a gtx 1060 or something, but it'd be worth looking into.

If you just want something to be able to log on and scratch the itch while at work or on a business trip or something, a newer 15" macbook pro should suffice. Just don't expect it to run at 60fps on the standard laptop preset or anything. I mentioned before, but I read that it runs very hot too, so that might be something you want to read up on before investing into one.

Looks like the Macbook Pro 15" comes with the Radeon Pro 560 with 4GB of GDDR5 memory and automatic graphics switching. Also the Intel HD Graphics 630. Do you think the Radeon Pro 560 would do well?

It's a little better than the radeon pro 450 in the 2016 macbook pro, which is what's listed as one of the supported devices on the store page for the mac version of the game.

    MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS*
    OS: macOS Sierra 10.12.4
    Applicable Models:
    MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2016) | Radeon Pro 450 | 1600x900, Standard (Mac)
It'll run the game, but someone else who owns one would have to chime in and let you know what settings. Likely the lower laptop preset, but it might pull 30fps on standard. I have no experience with the mac version of the game or that hardware. Could probably google around and read up on experiences others are having with it.

So I need a new laptop for work anyways. And I've decided not to go with a Mac and get a laptop that will do well for work/play both. Any recommendations? My budget is around $2k.

$2k is plenty to get a really nice gaming laptop right now that can still perform well for work (as long as you can plug it in somewhere). Hope the one you went with works out well!
