Getting 7-12 FPS

Thank you for helping. I have a newer laptop but am getting horrible FPS in the game and I'm not sure why. I've looked into as many of the settings as I know about and can't find a way to fix this. Here is what my laptop is and my stats;

Lenovo T470
Intel i7-7500 CPU @ 2.700GHz (2 cores)
Ram 8GB
Intel HD Graphics 620

I was under the impression that all of these specs are fairly good and at least be able to run the game on standard settings with a decent FPS. I'm completely out of ideas. I'm running the game in "Standard Laptop" settings. I've tried Frame Rate Limit on 60, 30, and 15 and get no change.

Hello pribilof, Thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums

Please try the following suggestions:

- Switch to DirectX 9 mode (select ‘Config’ from the launcher)
- Update/reinstall Graphics card drivers
- Disable all programs/overlays running in the background
- Perform a clean boot*
- Set compatibility mode to Windows 7/8**
- Make sure that any anti-virus software they have has the appropriate exceptions
- Install game on C drive (The same drive as the Operating System)

*To perform a clean boot for Windows 8/10: Open the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. For Windows 7: Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press Enter to start the System Configuration utility. On the General tab, click the Selective startup option, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box. On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all. For Mac: Restart the Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key. The Apple logo appears on your display. Release the Shift key when you see the login window.

Thank you Ariellendera. By switching over to Direct X 9 mode I was able to come up to about 13-15 fps. A little better, but still not where I believe my computer should be running the game.

Can you submit a FFXIV system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

Also I noticed even when loading into the main screen before selecting my character if I look at graphics settings it is showing my FPS at 13-16. So it's not too much going on after being in the game.

Intel HD 620 is really far below the minimum system requirements listed for Stormblood. The best integrated graphics you can find is below the minimum system requirements. A GTX 750/R7 260X or higher is listed as the minimum at a resolution of 1280x720, so it's honestly impressive that you're even pulling 15fps on the standard laptop preset. If you can get it up to 30 on the lowest settings and lowering your resolution, you will probably be okay questing and running dungeons and such. The Lenovo T470 is considered a business laptop and was not intended for heavy gaming.

You could pick up an external GPU enclosure since that laptop has a thunderbolt3 port, but you're looking at hundreds of dollars for the enclosure and another $150+ for a GPU (and then you might still run into problems with that processor--I'm not sure how well those U series cpus will handle an MMORPG with lots of players around). You'd probably be better off just returning it and buying a gaming laptop or a PS4 at that price point.

HD Graphics 620 is not even in the ballpark unfortunately. If you're going to play this game on a laptop, you need at least a nVidia GTX 1050Ti , (and not a MX150) My Lenovo Legion Y520 has one and the game runs at a solid 60fps at maximum laptop settings. Or at least on content I tried to play on it. I still prefer the desktop.



Like it may be passable to play on less, but you're really hard pressed to play any part of the game that is very busy like Eureka or 24-player alliance raids without a better GPU part.

The intel iGPU parts are rarely even capable of playing a 10 year old game, and that is by design as they're mainly to enable playback of internet video (eg netflix, youtube) and little else.

Would a new Macbook Pro 15" model do well?

If you get one with a discrete card, it'll meet the minimum system requirements on the FFXIV store page for the mac version, but you still won't have amazing performance. I also saw people complaining about heating issues playing on macbook pro, so your mileage may vary.

I'm guessing you need something portable for work or school or something? You could get a far better gaming laptop in the price range of a new macbook pro, but I could understand not wanting to go that route if battery life is an issue.
