Graphics Settings: 2560x1440 at 100Hz. Same issue in borderless and fullscreen and with and without "Disable Fullscreen Optimizations" checked in the .exe's properties.
    FPS Limit: 100

My issue is that GPU utilization is too low: I generally get a solid 100FPS except for a couple of ARR area like Old Gridania and Limsa when it's crowded. Then my FPS drops to the 80s/90s yet GPU usage stays at around 75% and CPU at 30%. Usage statistics obtained via RTSS.

    Dead thread

Do Devs/Mods read this forum? Is this a dead issue?

i dont think SE cares anymore about this issue, my friend is also getting it but wasnt till Shadowbringers launched and now cant even play cause he lags so badly even on low settings, before he was on high settings and it was fine, would be nice if the Devs find the GPU Usage Leak (similar to a Memory Leak) cause frankly its really annoying

So I've been having these issues since the last patch where the game kept crashing every other hour or so

Today I tried to play and it crashes 10 times in a row now after just a minute or two

Tried reinstalling new drivers and reinstalled the game to no avail

Still having High Temp on my GPU. I have zero issues with graphics, stuttering, lag etc. Everything runs buttery smooth. Purely a heat issue with the game.

Reporting the same issue, on an AMD RX580. More details below:

I stopped playing late Heavensward and only came back now, which I guess explains why I never had this issue before since it apparently started in 4.2 or 4.3.
    I play at 1440p medium/high settings

    - With framerate unlocked I play at 75-90 fps my card hits almost 77ºC and is permanently at 100% usage. This is beyond the 74ºC soft cap that I have experienced for months with literally any other game. Overwatch at 144fps? 74ºC cap. Witcher 3? Crysis 3? Forza Horizon 4? 74ºC cap. All at 1440p Medium/high settings, except overwatch which I play on low so I can maintain a 144fps lock.

    - This intensifies on cutscenes. For some reason, during cutscenes, the framerate jumps to 100-120 and the card heats up even more, hitting 80ºC and unusually high power draw, along with louder and faster fans. In Addition to this, I've had a couple of crashes to desktop during cutscenes, with a DirectX error.

    - If I use the game's settings to lock the framerate at 72 (1/2 refresh rate) the game locks to 13FPS for some reason. Changing to 1/4 refresh rate lock, further reduces that to an 11FPS lock.

    - I thought it might have something to do with a v-sync conflict, so I turned Freesync off on my monitor. Try as I might, regardless of the combination of settings (driver vsync off, game vsync on, vice versa, both on, both off, with and without freesync, the issue always persisted, no changes.

    - Capping the framerate using rivatuner/afterburner worked perfectly. Capping the FPS to a value even just slightly below what I actually get (locked to 72) resulted in slightly lower temps, lower power consumption and lower fan speeds. Cutscene issue persists. the GPU is still permanently at 100% usage, even though I get 72fps locked. which means the issue is still there, I just managed to slightly alleviate the symptoms.

    - in order to get this over with I just ended up lowering the rivatuner fps cap to 60. The game runs at 60 locked, and as expected, this further lowered GPU temperature, system power usage dropped by ~35W when compared to unlocked framerate, lower fan speeds and noise.

HOWEVER, even with a humble 60 fps lock:
    - GPU temp is still consistently higher than normal, still hitting 70-74ºC, which is insane.
    - Cutscene issue still persists.
    - And most astounding of all, GPU usage is STILL locked at 100% at max speed (1430Mhz core clock), for some reason.

Hoping to see this fixed, as this is a very serious issue and could cause unaware people with less than ideal cooling to overheat their PCs.

Adding more wood to the fire

    Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 1800X

    GPU: Radeon RX580 8gb

    RAM: 32GB

    OS: Windows 10 Pro

I have been having issues with this game the moment I decided to turn on DirectX 11 support when it was first provided. It used to be that the game would randomly crash with DX style errors unless I downgraded to DirectX 9 in the game settings.

After many patches, the game will run smoothly in DirectX 11 for most regular settings, even though the GPU usage being reported by the Radeon monitoring tools is a constant 100%.

However, having recently upgraded my monitor to a FreeSync/144hz capable curved panel, and trying to get FFXIV to output 144Hz or 120hz & higher frame rates than 60fps, the game now exhibits new problems:

    attempting 144HZ:
Randomly while playing the game, no matter what I am doing, the screen will go completely black for a few (no more than 10) seconds, then continue displaying whatever is currently happening on screen.
The time between these blackouts is completely random, but grows more frequent the higher I set the "minimum framerate" settings.

    attempting 120HZ:
The game will run smoothly, but the display brightness will change rapidly from slightly too dark to slightly too light in a rapid pattern

I have gone through my game library in Steam and confirmed that other game that can output at 120hz/144hz run without this issue (Deus Ex:Mankind Divided and Human Revolution, Doom 2016, etc).

I have purchased a new display port cable and have also tried an HDMI cable. I have tried running the game in lower graphical detail (keeping the 144HZ option on), I have completely reinstalled Windows, unistalled and reinstalled my graphics drivers and FFXIV twice...

I can also report that attempting to run a secondary monitor to play youtube/local video or to run programs that require odd hooks into the graphics card like VirtualBox also cause FFXIV to run poorly/freeze or cause the video I'm watching to do the same.

All of these problems go away (except for the excessive GPU usage) once I launch the game in DirectX 9 mode.

5700xt here. my gpu utilization skyrockets, Fans go in to turbo mode, and temps stay at 80 degrees. For reference when i play newer more graphically intense titles, my temps float around 68

    GPU overheating.

I created a separate post before reading this topic, so I copied the information here, where I think it belongs.

I just got back to FFXIV after a long time and I'm facing this "hot problem".
My GPU temperature is going high as soon as I enter the game.
In game, I tried all the possible graphic settings, but the temperature stays around 92ºC. In other demanding titles the maximum temperature I recorded was 82ºC.
The problem also persists with directX 9.0.
    I'm not using any overclocking.
Fresh Windows 10 installation and AMD drivers are up to date.
FPS fluctuates between 60 to 70 in "High Desktop" 10 less if I go "Maximum", playing in 2560 x 1080 (ultrawide).

    Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 18363)
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700 CPU @ 3.60GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.6GHz
    Memory: 24576MB RAM
Card name: Radeon (TM) RX 480 Graphics (XFX GTR Black Edition 8 Gb)
    Monitor Model: LG ULTRAWIDE
    Native Mode: 2560 x 1080(p) (60.000Hz)
All inside a Corsair Carbide Spec Alpha with 3 fans

    Has anyone been lucky?
Is there still hope to solve this problem?

I really don't think I can keep playing with the GPU temperature staying at 90 ~ 92ºC.

Thank you all in advance and Merry Xmas!

    RX590

I have a XFX RX590 with a aggressive fan curve and still can only play this for a few minutes before the GPU overheats and shutdown. Most of my games seem to be running hotter after the last AMD driver update but FFXIV is the only game that crashes my PC.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers and FFXIV with no change to the crashing. So annoying how my old GTX 760 ran this no problem for hours and my new RX590 cant run it but a few minutes.

My Friend has a 5700XT and FFXIV is crashing a lot for him too.
