Surely I'm not the only person that tried popping the bubbles? it seemed really unclear what to do here and felt like I was punished for trying to help.

Yeah, took me a couple wipes to realize just what you're supposed to do. They really don't give you very much time at all to figure it out and then nail you with AoEs that kill you in 2 seconds flat. First, you might think to try and DPS the bubbles, but nope, can't target them. By the time you realize this, POP you're dead.
Second try, you leading them away from her and will probably get nailed by some other AoE that he continues to do and in the meantime, Tataru is following you around making things worse.
They needed some kind of indication of what exactly you're supposed to do there. Especially with it being as late into the fight as it is, having to re-do that whole portion again multiple times just to get back to that spot is annoying.
I bypassed that by being on a tank, and hitting some cooldowns before popping the bubbles.
What are you supposed to do? I did this on Bard, and won on my 4th try, but I'm not entirely sure what I did differently. I think I was just running around like crazy at that point. I think I might've kited her and the bubbles so long they just kinda poofed on their own?
You're supposed to just run away. The game tried to hammer down the point that Tataru is not really a reliable battle comrade (notice how she literally keeps running into aoe indicator and gets hit).

I eventually realized you had to run away, but still.
Humor is fine and all, but insta-kill mechanics + humor + obtuseness is not. Especially when it's late in the fight and like the 2nd or 3rd time, it's "Can we please get on with this already?"
Reminds me of the solo duty vs Lakshmi -- insta-fail conditions several minutes into a battle is NOT fun.

It wasn't an insta-kill though. You can safely eat one bubble as long as you aren't too beat up, and that should be enough to clue you in to the fact that those bubbles HURT, andd you no longer want to get hit by them.

The two bubbles tend to be right next to each other, and both combined certainly WILL kill you unless you're a tank. In all 2-3 of my failed attempts both bubbles burst almost simultaneously for an insta-death.
And even if you did survive one, the very next thing that Soroban does, is project a HUGE AoE and focus on Tataru, who runs straight at you. One tick of THAT AoE is nearly as strong as the bubbles!
So if you took 1 hit from the bubbles, you are most likely very dead after 1 tick of that ludicrously powerful AoE that you have all of 3 seconds to realize what's going on and save yourself.
All of this, some 5 minutes into a fight after having to skip a cutscene or two?
It's annoying.

RUN AWAY FROM THE BUBBLES.
I'm so glad I found this forum page. I ran it the first time on summoner, a class I'm quite inexperienced with, thinking it was going to be easy. I got him to about 30% health with no issues only to try and save Tataru by running through the bubbles and instantly ate it when the AOEs spawned.
No biggie, I thought, it must just be because I'm trash at summoner. Let's try it on Machinist - my 2nd DPS main. This time I tried to break the tethers, and when that didn't work I tried standing in between Tataru and the bubbles thinking it might work like Griaule in Dohn Mheg. Again, I ate it and failed the duty.
At this point I tried looking online for what I was doing wrong only to first find a page that essentially said "this is how the game exposes DPS players who do less damage than healers, if you're failing this go look up how to play your class noob". I had a mini mental breakdown thinking I was terrible at a game I've burned 1.5k hours into. Then I found this page and read through all your answers and instantly felt better.
Went in for the 3rd and final time and, instead, ran away from the tethers and bubbles as quickly as possible as Tataru followed me around the map. She actually runs faster than the bubbles and if you run continuously, neither you nor her will get hit. Cleared it easily.
So... when Tataru begs: "A little help, [Forename]?!" the answer is to make her chase you... especially if you're not a tank or shield healer.![]()
