I wish rescue was a little more responsive. It seems to lag a bit when you cast it.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

Just put in the safety net for the rescue. Once cast on someone, a window pop up: 「Do you wish to be rescued? (Yes) (No)」 then another window pop up after choosing either (yes) or (no) 「Are you absolutely certain? (Yes) (No)」
Would be fun...
That would be so inefficient time-wise it'd be unreal.

I used it to save a lot of people in a multitude of situations, between pulling people onto the tile for Phelgaton, pulling people out of the Tsunami in Famfrit, it has its uses. I have also been rescued poorly, but I knew the intent behind it sometimes (I was going to Aetherial Manipulation to the party for a stack, but they rescued me in the middle of my cast, I understood why they did it, it was just poorly timed)
People are always gonna grief (I'm no saint here, I did jump from Titan and pull my friend down for laffs near the end) but at the end of the day, legit skill with a good purpose.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the tiny-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will allow it to pass through me and over me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
Why do people even have it on their bar? Swiftcast, esuna, lucid dreaming are must haves. Surecast is increasingly a must have, to be able to ignore knockbacks. Largesse, clerics, and even eye foe eye would have more use. Rescue is only more useful than break out of the role actions, and that's assuming you have a great connection, the person you want to rescue is in range, and its something that would outright kill them. It's hard to see it being much of any use.

I don't know what kind of people you are playing with that you somehow see Rescue being used to troll 80% of the time.
Even still all of those percentages in your OP are personal anecdotes and cannot be used as a factual statistic of how much Rescue is abused so they are pretty much useless and don't prove that Rescue should be deleted.
I am playing on Chaos, I don't know about NA or JP servers, maybe your playerbase is more mature ?I don't know what kind of people you are playing with that you somehow see Rescue being used to troll 80% of the time.

But I wouldn't come and rant in here if it only happened once.
I saw it now to many times around me, and 99% of the time, it was failure and trolling.
For a successful rescue, I only saw it once on Titan, and on another occasion for rescuing a dps from a pulsing aoe. And that's it.
The other times it was used, people were either irritated or plain ragequit without saying a word...
Anyway, instead of my original idea, which was complete removal, I am now more for Neri's solution which is much better : give players the possibility to choose for themselves if they want to activate or deactivate rescue on them through the mean of an ingame option.
Best of both worlds.
Trolls can't harass me anymore.
You healers can pull or mess around with your friends to your heart content.
I know there was all that excitement after ucob world first :Why do people even have it on their bar? Swiftcast, esuna, lucid dreaming are must haves. - unknow team (actually it was mainly the old team that got WF on t13, hence "The Legend Returns"...)
- They made the group meta science somehow ridiculous and overkill - just don't mess mechs
- They were for the most part all grown ups that had other things to do, so to beat it, they spent half the time of Angered, Elisyum and all.
- They had a rescue in it !
After ucob wf, for some time there was a little frenzy over the use of rescue, but it lasted like for a week or maybe two : people quickly figured out it was actually quite hard to emulate the hero healer.
And also probably because it looked cooler in ucob than in Kugane Castle.
But yea, that skill is just such a situational skill that it barely deserve a slot on the role actions bar.
If I wanted to troll, I would even say that it encourages people to be bad and to rely more on the healer lol.

Personally, I can't imagine to use rescue in like ... EVER (prearranged use excluded).
There is a ridiculous delay in between client and server in this game (about .5s to 1s, depending on server mood).
Just because I see a person failing, doesn't mean the server sees it too, so it's best not to interfere.
Also, I've never encountered trolling, so I'd wager that it is quite rare. Lifegrip in WoW was tons worse.![]()
