    Music and Mute toogle

Hi folks I like to start by saying I'm happy with some of the tunes in FF14, some of the changes in music by areas around the main cities was a very nice touch. But that is not what I'm here to discuss. What I am going to mention is a very nit picky subject one is a having a mute button in the config/audio settings and the other is a suggestion for a music break in the game.

First off I some times like to watch films or speak to people online or just to listen to my own music, so was wondering if a mute button will be added to the audio settings, now this has been mentioned before on the forums but was tied up with the ambient sounds (such as the weather effects) what I'm asking is if there be a way to mute but keep my sliders untouched.

Second is the music break and I can feel this might prickly subject for some. But I have always thought some times a break in the music would be a nice idea. My logic is that it will give the mind a rest period a time to listen to the environment around the character and will in turn help imputing the feeling of belonging to said environment for the player.

If I'm to give some examples Vagrant Story had placed music and environmental ambiance that used re-verb to good effect. Another is the first Tomb Raider which had sudden inclusion of music or a sound exclamation, that made land marks or game set pieces more dramatic. Now I'm not suggesting that the examples I've given should be followed entirely but something to think about when it comes to music/sound placement and timing.

Excellent suggestions, I'm all for it.
I really enjoy listening to my own music when I do repetitive tasks in the same area (read crafting and gathering).

As for the music breaks, I'm for it as well. A good alternative to turning off my speakers altogether when my mind need a rest.

LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.
    (Marvelous economics IQ test!)

Interesting idea about the music break. I could see a problem with not many people wanting that, but you could always add a button in the config to toggle music break on or off. I also agree with the mute toggles.

Hello sorry for that late reply I had to go away from game until the new payment plan was up and just got back recently. I agree with the music break toggle that would be a nice option to consider.

I would like to hear what the development team might have to say about this as I do like listening/reading game development articles.

This won't apply to everyone, but I'll mention it since not everyone knows about it.

If you're on Windows 7, you can open the volume control and hit "Mixer". From there you can mute and alter the volume of specific programs.

I'm all for a mute button, but in the mean time, I hope that helps somebody.
