Suggestion: At Level 50, experience gained overflows toward the acquisition of Job Points (name subject to change, such as Merit Points / Alternative Advancement). These Job Points can be used to enhance class and job abilities in small ways.
Job Point Rewards may:
Reduce the cooldown of an ability, weapon skill, or magic.
Reduce the TP cost of a weapon skill.
Reduce the MP cost of a magic spell.
Increase the success rate of a debuff or debilitating effect.
Increase the duration of a buff or debuff.
Increase the potency of an ability.
Improve secondary stats such as block rate, parry rate, critical rate, etc.
Other possibilities.
Other Job Point Thoughts:
*Job Points gained under one class cannot be used on another class.
*The amount of EXP required to gain another Job Point for the class could increase with each Job Point gained.
*Job Point rewards are not shared amongst classes.
*Multiple ranks of the same job reward can be taken for a stacked effect.
*With new abilities from a level cap, creates more opportunities to add to this system.
Example for el Black Mage:
A player who really enjoys playing a Black Mage at Level 50 can continue to enhance their spells as a Black Mage in small ways. Numbers are arbitrary.
Investing 3 Job Points to reduce the MP cost of Thundaga by 15%.
Investing 2 Job Points to reduce the recast time of Parsimony by 10 seconds.
Investing 5 Job Points to reduce enmity from Thunder spells by 20%.
Investing 2 Job Points to increase the chance of landing Blizzara's Bind effect by 4%.
/example for Black Mage
Where a player still performs at a certain base level even without any Job Point investment. And as the player continues to play as their preferred job, performing leves, caravan security, quests, spirit binding, strongholds, and primal fights at level 50, they will earn the EXP toward gaining more Job Points.
