I agree with Gath's point, but not his conclusion.

There is little to no advantage belonging to an LS in this game because there is no LS (large group) content in the game currently. Nearly all content can be done with a 8 man party, easily assembled via shout. Due to this, LSs really have no reason to exist other than ez communication.

Gath is pretty sure when 2.0 comes out it will change, but it isn't 2.0 and having strong shell relationships going into it would be better than not.
