That's also why when you search for an item that is also available as HQ it will look for both. The game client, for the purposes of crafting doesn't know if you have it, thus can not proceed, and can not summon the correct retainer since it may be in more than one and the game doesn't let you summon all the retainers at once.
This is not entirely correct, the search is even more limited. Whenever you summon a retainer (or maybe open their inventory), the game locally caches the inventory contents, and the search uses those cached results. This is only noticeable if you play on multiple PCs or consoles, but it comes up a lot if you do. So if you have a stack of iron ore on a retainer, move it to your inventory, then log in on a different system and /isearch for iron ore, it will tell you that you have double the amount you actually do, because it doesn't know the retainer doesn't have the iron ore anymore.

That said, your overall point (that the game doesn't actually know with certainty that you have the item) is spot on.

BUT, I think it would be a great thing if the crafting interface could list mats that are not stored in your immediate inventory but rather takes your retainers inventory into account.

I think this could save a lot of time rummaging through your retainer inventories.
A real no brainer QoL change. Almost every other game I've played with crafting uses this. please do.

I'd rather have the crafting bag from ESO+ (separate inventory for mats only) but since they are locking inventory to an app sub I doubt that would happen. One can dream I guess.

This was one of the best QoL changes WoW implemented. A crafting mat slot in the bank you could craft from. Made life so much easier.

So it won't happen in FFXIV. SE doesn't like to make life easy for people.

yup won't ever happen because it might be convenient and we can't have that

I love FFXIV. I moved here from WoW and don't regret it. WoW even gave me a free week to try again and their new raid was rubbish so I'm still here.

But that said... it's depressing the amount of times I see suggestions or ideas on the forums here, followed by "we can't have that because":
    -The servers would blow up
-The servers use a clunky system that can't handle it
-It would have to go in with the other 400 items in the cash shop because Enix is poor
-Enix can't afford that (more voice acting for example)
-Enix doesn't make big changes inbetween expansions.
-Random potential bot/RMT exploit excuse (mailing alts or non-friend list players for example).
-Enix would refuse to make it simple and mess it up (glamour dresser vs tmog tab or Verminion vs pet battle)

And WoW has had the suggestion, feature or QoL for years, successfully in a far superior form. It irks me the amount of times I've caught myself thinking "but WoW manages that". FF does have things WoW doesn't too, like character customization, crafting and proper day/night but that's 3 things to about 50 different QoL and features. Again, I love this game but it does feel like their servers are made from cardboard and sellotape sometimes.

And for that matter..stop treating SE like Blizzard.

They are nothing alike....and can't be alike.
Methods/practices shared are coincidental...many of which are patented/copyright/controlled/trade-secret/locked.

You may hate the answer...but its not an excuse. It's a Fact. Until industry changes...in terms of competition/profit....features you like on product A..won't be on product B. Until someone finds a way to make B not look like A....behave differently...and compatible with the tech. The inverse can be said for any other game on the market...including WoW. It's a cop out to make such a response.

And the servers are not made of cardboard.
Such remarks just show your ignorance. They have limits just like every other server. Great majority of which are due to compatibility and capabilities.

Much like running Microsoft Office on a Apple/Macintosh vs a Windows platform.
It requires modification/a great deal of effort to make that possible.
The tools you use to make such a thing work...took ALOT...of effort to make it happen. Even then - never perfect.

No SE is not perfect - but they don't deserve the ridicule either when people make "cop-out excuses" in response to rational answers made by IT professionals.

I think his point was that wow sets modern standards. This very fact is why 1.0 failed, ignoring modern mmo trends. Tanaka was disconnected completely. And if Yoshi-P didn't enter and make FFXIV adopt what wow set as basic mmo standards we'd still be playing 1.0. So how about we give thanks to wow for saving FFXIV. I hope the SE development team keeps adopting QoL standards to make it all simple, if they can.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the tiny-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will allow it to pass through me and over me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    That's incredibility subjective.
I could say the same of EVE Online (By CCP) who has a single shard universe and a game being far older than most.
WoW could learn a great deal from them.

But they are not the same are they?
I'm sure others could have their own examples.

Point is..its never as simple as people think it is.
