Telling a player they should quit? Is that ever justified?

Alright, fair enough. I am going to respectfully bow out of this conversation.

I actually "nope, no way am I touching that thread" with the one about 4k garbage dps. I read it hoping that it wouldn't go in the direction I thought it was going, but it did. So when this thread popped up I was like "oh gawd how do I write something that won't set off the powder keg".

But yes, I don't hate you. I don't hate Miste, Bourne, or Hyo, even though they seem far more ready to fight over raider and parser nonsense and thus I respond in kind. Passive aggressiveness is something I've put up with from my entire family all my life, and It quite honestly difficult to dial that down when everyone else is doing their Daria the deadpan snarker impression.

Nah, was my fault for making it in the first place. Should've just left it alone before I started typing. But what's done is done. Best thing to do now is just deal with it and move on. If you want to take a break you do but no one have a right to tell you to nor to tell you to quit. It's your choise ultimately.

I can tell you now OP that I'm actually on a small break away from FFXIV, the savage content was starting to get to me not because of the difficulty/rotations/etc but because there was not many willing to teach me the mechanics, and it just lead to negative thinking about the game in general. I decided I should only run Savage Content with the FC rather than doing random party finder groups, way less stress. I'm not exactly a hardcore savage runner, I just want to be able to beat bosses like Neo Exdeath "at least once" or unless I got it down so pat to a science like with Phantom Train after so many trial and error then I might consider running it multiple times.

I think some people forget we are here to have fun, and not to cause each other grief.

Short Answer - Everyone needs a short break rather than quitting all together or being told to quit.

I don't think it's ever justified to tell someone to quit. If you're concerned about their health and well-being, it's fine to suggest it, but do so much more politely than "I think you should quit" or worse "please uninstall and go play something better suited to your abilities...like Barbie Horse Adventures"

But if you're legitimately concerned about their health, suggesting a break isn't such a bad idea.

not for poor skill it's not. Party finder seems to have tools to weed out those that lie about their ability fairly well lately though

there are some people that just go on and on and on and on about how much they hate the game but are always around. Might be warranted to ask them why they don't quit
there are the game addicted too that let their real life fall to shambles while fixating on a game. While not something you normally know about someone they should probably quit

If you're telling someone to quit because they don't play as good as you want them to, no that is never justified and you would be an absolute jerk to say that.
