When wildfire and all other cooldowns are down, do I try to overheat or not overheat?
Generally speaking you only want to overheat on the same gcd you apply wildfire.
basiclly what above poster said: Wildfire is your "Burst" button so the primarly MCH plan is to manage ALL cooldowns/abilites around that (well cept Hypercharge thats one takes longer than Wildfire to be ready, but is ready for next wildfire so just plan around 1 hypercharge every 2 wildfires) granted thats the "Optimal" plan & this plan really only works easy at lv70 with the clunkness that is Flamethower. Boss mechanic's & down time do change this sometimes, like if you know they'll be back in time when boss is damagable again, but mostly MCH's "Burst" is every 1 min dictacted by primarally Wildfire.
What some see as "distracted" is really "fathoming the unfathomable" - last words from an Ul'dahn Mercurial Chemister at the battle of Carteneau
I understand how to burst and what to use, but when my burst is over and my burst skills are currently down should I try to not overheat by using the ability "Cooldown" to dump 25 heat? Or should I just let it overheat and reapply Gauss barrel?
There are a few exceptions, but you only want to overheat using the Flamethrower skill. Use cooldown to manage heat between wildfire windows, staying between 50 and 100 heat.
Generally:
After overheat-> 3 GCD shots -> Hotshot (reapply while GB is down to save 30 potency, since you're replacing a non-heated shot here) -> GB+Barrel Stabilizer->use reload, rapid, and cooldown to stay between 50 and 100 heat.

Can I piggyback a question on this thread? Not really worth making a new one
I'll have 8 pages next week, really torn on whether I should get the gun or chest
right now rocking the 360 24-man chest. Skill speed ; ; ; ;
The 365 Tsuku weapon isn't all that bad
I really want to get the chest, since when I upgrade the other ring I'll have to pick up more skill speed. I also feel like I have a better shot getting a coffer and/or weapon drop since I mainly still get my clears on war until I learn it better on mch. But the gun is an awesome gun of course.
So, should I get the chest or the gun? Heavily leaning toward chest just because of secondaries. I know the gun will help my dps more, probably, but I feel like I need to learn the fights better to really take advantage of that.

Hmm. The crafted upgraded chest is better than the Ridorana one. That + diamond gun would probably be best short term. But you're right that the tsukuyomi gun isn't that bad. Diamond still wins out easily but skill speed can be problematic as you know. You arguably have a better chance of getting the gun as a direct drop though as you say. Up to you really, depends how much speed you're willing to tolerate in the short term.
Yea, if wasn't so late in the cycle I'd consider crafted chest, but don't really want to overmeld at this point.Hmm. The crafted upgraded chest is better than the Ridorana one. Welp.. Still undecided. Might just have to flip a coin when it comes time lol
Depends.
Is this a static or pug situation? In a pug I might be more inclined to buy the coat since the coffer is FFA.
You get a guaranteed weapon someone can use every week in the form of the coffer - do you get free lot on those (especially for an alt job)?
If the brd/mch coat drops, would you get free lot on that?
Personally, I never got the coat to drop but it's easy enough to get a coffer in my static now that all our mains are kitted, so I used my books on the coat.
Overheat at 70 (single target) is treated like a buff that you apply by ticking Flamethrower when you're about to Wildfire. Avoid it otherwise.
