[Suggestion] Make "remove from friends list" 2-way

A few months back, I removed some people from my friends' list but I discovered I was still on their friends' list as they were able to send me moogle mail (to which I couldn't reply to because they weren't on my friends' list). My suggestion would be to make the removal of a friend two-way, as in... if you remove a friend from your list, you'd automatically be removed from their list as well. Yes, you could block them but sometimes these things aren't enough to warrant a block.

Quoting this because it's especially relevant with how SE is trying to evolve the social aspects of FFXIV.

Got divorced from my ex 1-way, then after a year my ex came back and used the ring to teleport to me.

People not on your friends list but have you on their friends list can...
    • Teleport to any estate you're associated with (personal, FC, apartment)
    • Moogle mail you
    • Teleport to the nearest aetheryte to you if you're a new adventurer
It's not mutual because you don't have them on your list so you are unable to do the above in return.

(FYI, all of the concerns pertaining to this issue voiced here are relevant.)

Had a similar incident after someone I thought was my friend turned the creep factor up to eleven and I removed and blocked them for their behavior. The second I had the courage to clear out my block list and change the name of that character a year later I got an instant message from that person, making me decide to shelve the character once more rather than allow that person to track me unhindered. If I remove someone or even block them, I shouldn't be on their friendslist anymore.

I transferred from Balmung to Cerberus for roughly five months. The servers are on completely different Datacentres. When I transferred back to Balmung I was shocked to find out that I was still on some people's friend lists. I simply showed up as 'Unable to Retrieve' during my absence but as soon as I returned everything was back in place. Given that one of my reasons for my break was due to not wanting any communication with certain players it was a rather unpleasant experience.

I understand this is frustrating, and I 100% agree and support this idea. On the other hand, if people couldn't track you via their friends list, they still can via the Lodestone, as every character on it has an ID number that doesn't change no matter how many times you change their name or transfer to a different server. It's how I've kept track of a special few who've made it onto my super duper special blacklist (which is actually currently just one person). They were particularly toxic, and, as they transferred to another server, I can keep track of who they are, even should I find myself on said server for whatever reason. It's by no means a way for me to harass them, but it's certainly a way to keep track of them so you can avoid them. As they have it right now, the only way you can truly get out from under someone's radar is by deleting your character. D:

I could care less if they looked up my lodestone, personally. What I do care is if they can still PM me, teleport to my house/apartment, etc. (I don't care if they visit my house, but if they're not on my friends list, why should I be on theirs?), etc. I'm talking regular instances. No longer game together or no longer considered friends, etc.? Just remove them, yenno? If skype and some other social aspects make the removal two-way, there's absolutely no reason FFXIV can't make it two-way.

Edit: seeing the other comments, I totally get why you included that.

    So much editing below:

Unfortunately, that's a possibility of unblocking someone who SHOULD be blocked. Not sure if something like 2-way friend removal would wholly aid that situation. I was able to find a friend of mine (ex-eorzean spouse) who changed his name after we both went to different servers (our server was pretty dead). All I did was google his name and Google showed up a character with a different name, but I knew his classes, levels, and such since we used to always play together so I knew this was the same character. Was actually how I found out he and our other old amigos switched servers. So, Suko is right in that X person can still track your Lodestone page and whatnot, even without your character ID code. I think in that situation, you probably should have reported for harassment?

But yes, I agree. Should definitely not be on their friends' list even after you block them - or even after you move servers.

Yeah, my response was more geared toward comments about transferring servers to get off people's friend lists. Sorry if I didn't make that clear.

No worries. It was my fault for not reading/thinking thoroughly as well. xD

I agree. There is no reason you should remain on their list if you have removed them on your end.

I agree with the OP but I also think mods need to crack down and ban people who harrass others nonstop.

It was my mistake, but it highlighted the fact that all this time that person was /tracking me/ and knew when I logged on and even where I was in game. Yes they can do the same thing just putting my names in, but a name change might have helped with that had they not always had a bead on who I was and where I was at all times. Even having one less avenue available to someone like that would do my heart a world of good, block or no.

As for the harassment issue. This was well over a year ago and I haven't logged into that character very much since then, nor was I thinking clearly enough at the time to get screenshots to handle the situation properly. By the time I calmed down enough it was too late as I dipped offline the moment they contacted me and were sufficiently blocked.
