Suggestions About the In Game Blacklist Feature

So, typically in game if we are being harassed by a player or players, see rmt spamming shouts, or just don't like what someone is saying, we have the option to blacklist (/blist) them. But I've noticed that even with the blacklist feature, I still have to see them or end up randomly getting partnered with people on my blacklist on Duty Finder or having the displeasure of seeing them join a Party Finder pug I'm in.

My suggestion (and I'm sure someone else has said this on here probably) is to adjust the blacklist so we don't have to be randomly matched with people on our blacklist in Duty Finder. And if possible, adjusting the blacklist so we can't see the avatars of people on our blacklist.

I mean, if we are blacklisting someone in game there is obviously a reason for that and should'nt be forced to keep seeing them and being randomly matched with them in Duty Finder.

Seeing people in game on my blacklist just brings back bad memories that I would just want to get past but seeing them is a constant reminder of those incidents.

Is it possible in a future patch to adjust the blacklist feature with these suggestions? No one should be forced to be around or be randomly matched with people on their blacklists.

This is just a thought and a suggestion that's been on my mind for a long while now and just wanted to put this suggestion out into the aether.

    Thanks for reading.

That would probably very difficult to program in, unfortunately. This is an MMO and there are others around you. This would turn into a single player game if this actually worked . I’m sorry you were treated in a way that led to you BL ing these people. If you run into them again, just re q. If you see them around, just ignore them or be around others who you feel welcome with.

It's not really possible to do this because of how the DF and PF work.

How the game works, more or less...

Queue for DF, DF will match anyone in the data center currently with that duty selected, then the roulettes. PF basically is DF with some slots pre-filled. If one person has one person blacklisted, then for a light party this has to check the blacklists of all party members before putting them in the party, and as we've seen with "a party member has not unlocked this content" type of messages, it would prevent the party from proceeding if someone is blocked on just one person's blacklist. So if you're a miserable person who blacklists people spitefully, then you actually disrupt entire 8-player and 24-player content from being able to move forward if that blacklisted person is in the queue at the same time. And what if a blacklist is mutual? Then the DF ends up in a no-win scenario where both players are in the roulette or something and they're the only available players, but since they've blacklisted each other they end up at the bottom of the queue and never get matched with anyone who has a clean blacklist.

What I'm saying is that nobody can possibly ever do something so unforgiving that they should never be allowed to play content. Just because some players are rubbish-tier on their job you met them on, doesn't mean that will always be the case, and thus such a blacklist system would only ever hurt you, not them.

From from a technical standpoint, the largest reason why this will never be a thing is that it would over-complicate the roulettes and anyone with an active blacklist would be banning themselves from the roulette as the most efficient way to arrange a roulette is to put players with active blacklists last, and only place them once all the players with no blacklists have been matched and find one that the blacklist doesn't have.

    Like it goes like this:
1.Duty finder looks for players with no blacklists: 23 of 24 positions matched
2.Duty finder looks at players with blacklists and reads the blacklist and checks against matched players, if someone is on that players blacklist, they're not matched. So that player has to wait for the next 24 player group.
3.Duty finder looks for players with no blacklists: 22 of 24 positions matched
4.Duty finder looks at 2 players with blacklists and reads the blacklist and checks against matched players, if someone is on that players blacklist. These players have each other their blacklist, thus only one of them gets to move forward, how does it decide? The player with the smallest blacklist gets to move forward.
So now that player has just had 6 parties from two alliances they could have moved forward with if they didn't blacklist a player.

If you know someone is just going to be a troll, report them for harassment, every time.
