Classes are the trunk, jobs are the branches. If you take a look at PGL you'll see how we still have an incomplete framework with this first release of jobs. Several of PGL's abilities would be usesful for tanking, MNK however does not add anything that would help. Dollars to donuts that the next PGL job released will give the rest of the skill set needed for an effective EVA tank.

Exactly. Anyone dissing the class system is missing the big picture.

Let's take Time Mage for example. Alone, it probably doesn't have enough unique abilities to make it a class by itself (maybe it does, let's not argue about that right now). However, as a JOB, branching off something like Arcanist or w/e, Time Mage could exist, since you only need a smaller handful abilities to specialize.

Think of all the other jobs that we've seen in the FF universe, specifically FF Tactics. Think about how many branches we could see. Mustadio's Machinist Job could branch from Musketeer. Musketeer could also branch to Corsair.

Maybe we could see a Scout class that branches off to both Ninja and Thief.
PUG seems pretty in tune with the elements. Maybe it becomes Geomancer one day.
Conjurer could lead to Summoner. Thaumaturge to Red Mage. Who knows.

The potential is huge. The burden of designing a complete, balanced set of abilities from scratch is gone. Adding 5-10 abilities or traits to define a class into a Job is a unique and clever way to do it, that doesn't require you to level up everything.

I truly hope to see things develop in this way.

I feel some here are not being open minded about this system. It adds a lot of flexibility on party play the way it is set up. For right now, we just have to deal with the "Only 1 job per class." setup until SE is able to offer us a better variety. At the same time, Class is not being out dated. I am sure that I wouldn't want to go Paladin on solo'ing a tough mob. I need abilities from other classes that the job cannot provide.

Don't have to agree with me, but I believe this is a legit system.
if you are glad you are always tank or a waste of a spot. you are never dps.

You do know it was simply an example, right? Also, Dev's (not a confirmed fact) want to make Dark Knight an alternate job for Gladiator. If that is the case, most likely GLA would get 2-handed swords and be viable DPS, rather you are on DRK or not. Pure speculation, but like I said, only an "example".

well DK would be the DPS not glad. Glad needs to made a dps for its olo role imo. PLD=tank Glad should =dps

that's the problem with job system why have pld as party tank when glad is already a good tank. Glad needs to be made a worse tank and better DD to make the job system "party play" make sense.

You don't know the problems with the job system. Unless you're part of the QA team, in which case, give us the infos.

They did say that there will be times when the class will be more useful than the job in parties depending on the fight. Paladin may be the tank job, but that doesn't mean it's going to be better than gladiator for every fight. Also, giving gladiator dmg abilities means giving paladin dmg abilities. Lets not forget balance.....

I agree(my 2 cents)! I don't know if all forums are like this one or what, but keep up the good work Square-Enix. There are a lot of quiet gamers out there that don't get on the forums, but truly appreciate your works of art. Keep on sharing that creativity.
